Ok over the past few weeks my 01 S80 with 80K miles has been running very rough. I replaced the plugs with liitle effect. Had no ODBII codes, but felt 80 would be cood to change.
Today on my way to the office the car stalled out at a light. I ad trouble restarting it and keeping it running. Tac drops to 5K and dies.
Same problem tonight on my return trip home.
ODBII is reading out
P0101 Mass Air Flow or Volume Air Flow Circuit Range/Performance problem
P1608 PCM Malfunction
P0172 System too Rich - Bank 1
Yes it makes sense that the engine was running very rich and starving for air.Not sure what cylinders make up Bank 1 or what is the PCM.
Do I just need to swap the MAF?
Air Mass Meter Bosch (OEM) $191.11
Any help or way of diagnosing the MAF?

not other will a rich condition be reported. ETM problem usually result in stalls and poor idling and other throtle relared problem. it's probabley not the ETM. but theres no excuse for you own research. and if it's wrong then you don't have to worry about blaming someone else that know no nothning and S80s

You could try unplugging the MAF sensor. This will make the ecm default to pre set values. If it is the MAF sensor it will most likely run better with it unplugged.

I did unplug the MAF, engine ran worse. RPM's went from near zero to a high of 500RPM. Never settled out at 1K. I would not run this engine long in this condition as it sounded terrible.
As soon as I replugged in the MAF the engine wanted to run better, but stll very rough idle.

You could have a dirty throttle ( as I have seen you want to know how to clean it ). By the way is your car turbo?? If so maybe there is a leak in your intake system.

No no turbo. Yes I want to ensure its not just dirty. I have pulled the top half of teh intake manifold off. Exposed the air cambers to each cylinder, very dirty.
I'll cleanig them up later this week-end.
I am looking some direction on cleaning the TB. What is the BEST cleaner? Why not Carb Cleaner?

Isn't the eTM all covered 100% by volvo now? I think so. At any rate, a bad O2 sensor would also screw up fuel mixture and give you a bad idle at times. Just a thought.

could also be the infamous intake manifold gasket. Has anyone not had that problem?
by the way, I am registered, I'm just on someone else's pc. thanks
