Hi, I'm new to the forum and not yet a Volvo owner. My name is Jake, from Ontario Canada, long-time Celica All-trac owner and modder - Now I need to get a car with a little more space and still have some fun.
I just need some clarification on what is available in the performance wagons. I've narrowed it down to a 1998, 99 V70 R. I can't seem to find concrete information telling me weather or not this vehicle was available in a 5 speed. The '99 seems perfect, but I really would like to have awd AND stick.
I actually have been having a hard time sourcing any info on 5-speed, be it 850 or V70... If I have to for the performance I'll downgrade to a 2wd, but I have to have turbo and 5-speed... The only other option is to swing to the dark-side and go WRX:P
If you know of any good sites, pass 'em on
Thanks

the awd systems are delicate on the early models, we do have an awd 5spd 850 on our lot in Mississauga right now, and personally have 98 V70 awd 5spd that could be looking for a home.

The R is teh only AWD that has the high pressure turbo. All the others are LPT's and much less sense of performance. Lucky you're in Canada - they got 5 speeds, but almost no AWD's in US were offered in 5 sp's, so that's why it is harder for you to locate info.

... So, I did a little search to try to find the engine differences between the LPT and the HPT setups... Didn't find much. Is it just a matter of ECU and the actual turbo, or are there differences in the engine's internals. Also, is there anywhere I can find info on the different engines that came in the V70s?

I have an v70xc with the lpt. Its a big change from my 94 850 Turbo. Maybe it can be modded to
bring some more zoom to it? Dont know. Wish I had an R real bad. You would not even know its
a turbo....
Ideas anyone. I'd hate to see someone interested in Volvo to go to a Subie. I hate the
boxxer motors!
