but on the other hand your volvo dealer is obligated to do it for free if you are experiencing ETM problems

Yeah but 155 doesn't cover the PCV cleaning.

granted - While under the boundries of this extended warrenty cleaning is covered.
interprepted - once warrenty ends - you still gotta clean the affected parts - thus - ceasation of pvc cleaning is not a benifit - yes!?

AS part of the upgrade, they first checked my PCV for free, finding it OK. I think the PCV has to be ok for the upgrade.
first time at around 60K, the mechanic cleaned it using long hoses and pliers and some spray. $37.50.....

I'd like to see that trick. I remove the intake manifold. I guess some guys remove the PS pump and now that I think about it, that makes a lot of sense.

It's all relative.
At the time I bought roho - he had 63k - that was 3 years ago.
Today he is pushing 147k. In the last 18 months the usage frequency changed dramatically.
I drive 1200 to 1500 miles a week.
Averaged: 1350 miles a week x 52 weeks = 70200 miles
70200 + 147000 = 217200
I have experienced some of the issues asscociated with 155. But I have not had the upgrade applied as of yet.
[As a matter of fact, I just recently did belts, tensioners, plugs, flushes, and PVC cleaning- prior to this I had been geting ETS indicators and CEL with regularity - after the maintenace - I disconnected the battery for an hour. That was a week ago - and now 700 miles into the 1350 mile week - no CEL, no ETS.]
As I was saying, it's all relative - a long time? From my perspective it's another year. It I get it done at all.

i just take off the ETM...dont remove the banjo bolt. just remove the little vacuum hose going to it. take a paperclip and clean out the nipple going to the vacuum hose(right by the banjo bolt) then take a straight pick and clean out the hose.
ive done this many times and has fixed every one, using a manometer to check crankcase pressure.
oh yeah, and PCV cleaning is part of the ETM warranty. they say before replacing the ETM you need to check crankcase pressure/vacuum. there should be a slight vacuum to the crankcase and if there is not you are supposed to clean it and they pay you (pretty good) under warranty

Yeah that is pretty much what I do. I don't actually take the manifold off I just get it loose so I have a little more room to work. I think you get 3.something to do one, I've always cashed on it.
