Cruising back after my remap, I managed to obtain the following over a distance of 180 miles, all motorway/freeway.

It'll be 2-3mpg MPG down on this when I calculate it at the tank, and remember this is UK Gallons!

Awesome.

Haha, yeah it's fun coasting these bricks and making it all the way to 99.9 MPG.

But, wow, that's pretty impressive! Why can't we import these cars?? Isn't volvo still doing the pick-up at the factory and travel bonus?

Yep, an Imperial gallon is about 1.2 US gallons, so to us the mileage would be more like 65 or so... still pretty astounding.

Oh, and see this article from BusinessWeek regarding why we can't get such vehicles (yet) over here in the States.

pretty amazing! you can either get a brokeback shitty hybrid with a tiny engine and turbogay design or you can get a sweet S60 D5 and get the same mileage! not here in america though =(

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

EPA '07 specs are more stringent than ever and heavy duty manufacturers put a ton of $ into R&D just for their engines. Mack scrapped a whole medium duty truck line just because the engine wasn't going to meet EPA specs. Anybody remember a 500hp diesel Volkswagen Toureg that could tow 10,000 lbs? Of course you don't because it didn't make it to the U.S. Why? Because it wouldn't have met EPA specs.

I think a big reason that DCX can get Jeep's and other vehicles w/ diesels is because of their heavy duty Mercedes Benz team's genius has spilled over into the passenger side.

I'm sure things have changed since I was in Europe but, you could import a car that was 5-10 years old (something like that) without it having to me safety and or epa regs

From what I learned talking to a VW tech when we had the TDI, the sludge for diesel fuel we have here wreaked havoc with the fuel injection system on the V10 TDI Touaregs. The few TDI T-regs they sold were mostly "shop queens" and ended up being traded out to V8 models.

I'd really like to have a D5 myself....
