Hi all,

I'm new to this forum and may soon be a proud owner of a used C70. I was hoping someone could provide some info regarding the Pros' and cons' of getting a used C70. Most likely the car will be between a 1999-2003 model (convertible). Could you provide as much information regarding known issues for a C70 between those years.

Any feedback would be great!

Thanks.

ps - i have two 2002 C70 Convertables.. one 5 speed, one auto.

they're great cars! (c70's in general, not just the ones i have for sale) tongue.gif

pps- 99-04 C70's are all the same.. the 03-04 came with jeweled headlights, like the ones i have on my car.

How can you have post script when you don't have any script to begin with? blink.gif

EDIT: Most convertibles have a smaller turbo than a hardtop...I think the convertible has a 13g (Low pressure turbo) and the hardtop has a 16T (high pressure turbo)

Yes.

they'll be marked HT if they are High Pressure Turbo's.. like 2002 C70 HT covertable.

proud owner of a c70 T5M coupe... best decision I've made in a long time. Its a great car. Mine needed a new battery at around 81.5k miles. So I guess that might be something to look out for... also I had a big subwoofer, so that was part of the problem. Other then that though, great cars. I don't know much about the convert, but I assume its the same goodness as the coupe.

In 99 all you can get is the low pressure turbo. Many are high pressure in later years. I like mine, but the flex in the dash/winshield/cowl over uneven road surfaces is really crazy. It gets pretty wiggly. The only notable issue is the throttle control, but Volvo has extended the warranty. People complain about the window regulators going bad too. The only problem I have had that kinda bugs me is that the sun visors almost always break. It's a bad design - thin plastic tube/hinge where the vanity light wires go through. They are $150 each.
Oh, and even worse is that there is a tiny spring buried in the seat hinge that is connected to a very tiny plastic hook. This controls the motor putting the seat forward when accessing the back seat. That little hook will break, and all seat function will stop, usually with the seat in full forward postion. You can make it work with your finger in there if you know what to do. When yours break, post here and I'll tell you a permanent fix. I want to smack whoever designed that.
'99 C70 LPT convertible - nautic blue/tan - all stock - 42,000 miles.
'00 S40 1.8t - summer green/gray leather - 97,000 miles.

Ummmm...there were HPT's in 99 for both convertible and hardtop. VADIS confirmed that for me.

Thanks!!! I appreciate the advise. I never owned a Volvo before, but i heard them to be extremely reliable cars. So far it seems that there really any major known issues with the C70'S. How many years does a Warranty last for Volvo?

In this country? A convert? I do not believe there was a 99 HPT convert. Coupe maybe. If there was, I stand corrected but will not admit it.

Well I have never to my knowledge seen a '99 HPT convert. And the source of my knowledge that they were not offered in '99 is irrefutable - a post on this forum! So there! If that post was innacurate, I should have been able to rely on, say, a moderator to remove it immediately. But, nooooooooooo. So pretty much this is your fault.
