Is there any way to convince a dealer to replace the ETM instead of just doing the software update if it's one with the white sticker?

I had mine replaced before the recall, maybe that is why mine got replaced.

Just tell them to do it.

They are only supposed to replace it if the software cannot get rid of all of the codes. If you feel like living on the edge you could snip a wire!!

yeah, but then they could screw you over pretty good if they found it...and make you pay for it due to damage being done to the ETM.

i got it...take the ETM off and soak it in the sink, then put it back on...that would work great!

lol!
I was afraid it wouldn't be easy. Guess I'll just try the software for now, and see if I get more desparate later. grr...

I've only seen the software not work a couple of times, it's covered up to 200k anyways.

does anybody know, cause IPD/TME sure isn't talking, if the ETM patch overwrites the IPD ECU upgrade?

Unplug it withn the car running to set some ETM codes , then complain to the dealer. They will replace it free. If they dont then repeat above till it's replaced

so, did his ETM problem come back after upsolute redid it?

i'm inclined just to clean the ETM or replace it. a SW patch for a HW problem is usually just ignoring errors (in some industries)

I am pretty sure that IPD reprograms the ECM whereas ETM software is stored in the ETM itself. They are 2 completely different modules with different software. It shouldn't make a difference but don't quote me, I don't want to be responsible if something gets fucked up.

Just curious do they do the SW upgrade for ETMs w/ the yellow label also? I don't have any CEL or anything but I keep reading that it improves performance and I'm putting my car in the dealer's next week for some recalls anyway.
