I assume you asked if you have to remove the intake manifold. The answer is yes; the trap is located right below it. 4 hours sounds about right if you are changing the whole PCV system. If you are changing the trap, might as well do the whole thing to do it right.

YEah, about 4ish hrs. don't forget to pick up a intake manifold gasket as well. You can forgo the intake tube (most $$ of pcv system) just give it a good cleaning. FCP groton www.fcpgroton.com has awesome deals, just make sure to call them with your specific make/model the trap system changes practically every year!

Yes, as the setup is different as well as the trap between models (even within the 850 range).
Also, someone suggested just changing the trap and cleaning the hoses (not buying the replacement hoses). My experience was that the so called hoses are no longer hoses...they are brittle, hard and plastic like after they are old.
You do have the option though of going silicone hoses instead of the factory hoses for the trap to the intake hose (from the air box), but the other very short connector hoses from trap directly to the block (1-2 inch pieces) and the one to the top of the engine really can't be anything but the Volvo kit. Therefore, as suggested by someone else,
DO IT RIGHT and GET THE WHOLE KIT
Oh, and don't forget the intake manifold gasket.

I find it easier to remove the accessory bracket not the intake. You can just place the PS pump and the AC aside without disconnecting the hoses and remove the alternator all together, followed by the aluminum bracket. After that you have a great shot to the PCV canister. On the S80 you will have a hard time doing it without removing the bracket. I have done hundreds of these and it is far faster and easier that way. The small piece of hose should be replaced with the, updated Volvo, steal and rubber coupling, though it is the molded O-ring seal that always leaks…

Actuall on the 80 series...I break off the trap mounting tab behind the accessory bracket then gind a very slight chamfer on the bracket allowing the use of 1/4" 10mm swivel socket when installing the new trap ..... it works quite well

I know that works but you have to remove the intake. If you only remove the bracket you have to do none of that..

here's an idea. Let's stop the pi$$ing contest and find out year and model. To some the bracket might be easier. I have done millions as well takes me about 2 hrs after cleaning the etm and banjo fitting with a new hose. I take off the manifold. Was interested to hear about the Aux bracket. Might try that next time. Have fun.
