Yesterday my 2001 S40 showed SRS air bag light.
I took it to the dealer and they are telling faulty driver side SIPS(Supplemental Side Impact Air Bags system) system and $900 to replace.
I read some where in this forum that SIPS system is independent to main SRS air bags and it doesn't get verified by SRS system checkup.
Is that true or these vehicles SRS system verifies all air bag components?
Appreciate any inputs, before sucked by the BloodSuckers.
Thanks,
Mike

Unfortunately SRS light is dealer only reset. I would go to another dealer for a second opinion.

I've seen this problem a couple of times, everything sounds kosher to me.

When you say Kosher are you saying the dealer is correct and that he's going to have to replace the SIPS system for $900? Or that getting a second opinion is kosher....or that everything with his car is okay, thus kosher?

I am saying that the dealer sounds right. I have seen those bags go bad before and they are expensive to replace. As far as what will work and what won't with the SRS light, I have no idea. If I were going to suggest anything I would say that no airbags will work, but that is just to save my own ass.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for your replies.
Since inspection is due this month, I am trying to save my jerk.
I enquired couple of guys for SRS light inspection failures, they gave contradicting statements. One said side air bags is not part of the inspection. One said any thing comes under as long as SRS light is on.
So looking for ways on how to avoid $900 repair just to pass inspection.
Thanks,
Mike
