SO yes... my question is about anyone that has an auto tranny with the geartronic.

Lately on my S40, I've been using it all the time. The engine feels more free to rev through the gears. Is it bad for the transmission to use this on an everyday basis as far as long/short term usage is?

if you're planning on using it everyday, i'd suggest adding an auxiallry transmission cooler, just to be safe.

My mum's 2002 S60 AWD has it. It is sloppy and harsh during gear changes. It is soo slow too. She even has that TCU update to help with the harsh gear changes. Hasn't helped at all. Mounts probably need replacing but haven't checked them yet. Dealer didn't mention at last service 2 weeks ago.

That is true. I am wondering if the 5sp in my car can use it with a TCU upgrade because it is the same tranny. Would only be worth it if it was under $1k I think though.

Not an excuse. I learned on stick which wasn't much of a challenge. Both of my parents only drive stick. Geartronic is missing a clutch which makes it much easier for a beginner. There's no foot-hand coordination.

I've never been a fan of geartronics. I prefer the real thing.

Thanks for the input guys....

I hate using it on the S60, the car drives horrible in that mode. I think it's the weight of the car and the sport suspension it's just too sloppy. But on the S40 it drives much better. Probably because I can choose the gears instead of letting the computer go straight to 5th gear. Heh.

Wow, I only use it on my S60 T5. I wish it were a manual, and that is teh main reason why. I think it is awesome and it isn't that slow if you time it correctly. I usually push up 1000rpm before 6000 for optimum power output because there is such lag when it is auto mod cause the auto computer has to think and it takes a while to get the car going fast, if that makes sense... I love that mod and there is nothing that makes me think it would shorten the life of the car. Does the 05' have a different tranny than the 04- cause of the different turbo?

~Mike

P.S. it helps if you go to LA a lot, haha... I know, lame excuse. biggrin.gif
