I was reading these instructions. My serpentine belt is installed in the "old" way, should I bother changing it?

When you but a new belt you should use the NEW routing the dealer gives you when you buy the belt. The new belt has a different length.

Hi,
I recently purchased a new serpentine belt, itīs not Volvo OEM since they did not have it in stock. The belt I purchased was too long I was told and did not fit, so I did a search around town and found one that the AC service guy (was getting the AC fixed) told me to get and he installed it the old way.
So, itīs probably the right way now but I still have the other belt which was supposedly too long. Is there any benefit on doing it the other way or is it just to counter for a different length belt? I hear a squeaking sound near the serpentine belt when the car is cold and idling. I do not recall hearing that before the AC fix.

Use the new longer belt with the new routing.
The new belt is longer because it wraps around the alternator 3/4 of the way, vs the old belt and route wrap of about 1/2 way.
