DTM is a rice-fest...its fun to see what those idiots post though...as in them drooling over that ridiculous intercooler without thinking of how wasteful it is...

where did I ever call it a ricer? way to put words in my mouth Doug...

its a waste (THE intercooler, not the car, I thought that was pretty apparent) because it runs 12s and its a waste because that Intercooler is not efficient at all...I'm sure they could shorten it 2 feet and it wouldn't make the air any warmer...

and Doug, being a mod, I applaud your continuation in reducing the sarcastic and personal attacks wink.gif

Perhaps you should look up the dyno stuff on that car. I don't remember where but I saw a video of it on the dyno, I don't remember exactly what the power was but it was in the 7-800+hp range. I wouldn't say it was that wasted since its obviously making more power than anyone around here is even close to except for the VMS Merlin block, and it isn't even comparable.

EDIT: 875hp, 932lb-ft torque. When you are making that kind of power, an intercooler that size is quite often necessary. I don't see anyone looking at road tractors with the giant intercooled diesels with cores that are sometimes as big OR BIGGER than 36"x36"x4" saying they're way too oversized. The engineers wouldn't be putting those in if they weren't beneficial.
As for weight distribution, see, the thing weighs at most a very liberal, lets say, 60lbs. The balance is easily counteracted by properly tuning the suspension and distributing weight elsewhere properly to make up for it. plus being so low it isn't going to damage the center of gravity and it won't have a lot of leverage either so it shouldn't do that much to it.
As for being wide, you forget, intercoolers don't have to have a set channel inner diameter. The core channels inside can be smaller or larger, wtih a long one like that you have fewer larger channels that pass through a longer distance by a greater number of fins , as opposed to a shorter one with a smaller inner channel being cooled by a lesser number of fins. With a core like that, I bet it would outflow several 850 intercoolers, something thats necessary when you're feeding air into an almost 900hp engine.

Well said Doug.

I don't see how making ANY car fast a waste if done correct.

I don't see what you think is a waste of time there? I mean you could say us modding our Volvo's is a waste of time. I like that BMW, and I bet it could beat a lot of Volvo's on this board.

in no such way is that work of art a waste. Basics of turbocharged engines should tell you that, and yes a shorter intercooler would probably yield higher intake temps. it probably only runs 12's because of traction problems, or maybe the dogbone shifter?

I doubt it.

Alot of guys switch to Powerstroke intercooler's (about as big as it gets) and they said that it actually improves throttle response and reduces lag. You can have a BIG and have it flow right too you know.

Call me when your making 850whp out of your 850... I'll be sure to follow what you think to the letter then.

I'm sure it would be neoglible...thats what i was saying was a waste (if you didn't see my edit in the first post)...I, in no way though the car was a waste, it is in fact a great machine but I thought the Intercooler was ridiculously over-sized, and one half its size would probably do the same job just as well if not better...

and its not an all-out drag car. I'm sure that car could do alot better if setup exclusively for drag racing.
