I've given this a lot of thought. In the few times of my life, I've never been as angry as when my car was towed. It had me thinking. What can I do to prevent my vehicle from being towed? Well, simply securing the hand brake doesn't work as they can use dollys to move the car. But at some point, they have to attach hooks to the vehicle either to tow it onto the flatbed or tow it directly to the impound lot (for tow trucks w/o a flat bed). Now I notice that there are two tow rings on the vehicle. One near the front bumper and one near the rear, both centered. I was thinking that if I wield it shut, my car would never be towed because the tow hook has nothing to hook onto. But then, that would leave me in a bad position in the event that I need the car towed for mechanic failures / accidents, whatnot (Is that even a word? Let me check the dictionary. No it's a not a word, I'm dumb!). There has to be a way that I can prevent and allow the car to be towed at my discretion. What if I were to get padlocks, maybe 2 or 3 locked to each tow ring? This way, there would not be enough space for the tow hook to attach to the tow ring AND I can keep the key hidden in the car so I can removed them when I need to. Sure it's a pain to have to get under the car but last time I checked, I'd rather get under the car for a couple of minutes than to pay $250+ for tow charges. Would this work? What are your thoughts?

i'm sure you've seen how they remove totaled cars from the site of a wreck. i imagine they can just use the same technique on yours. you might not like it when you see how they do it smile.gif

i would rather make it as easy as possible not to get scratched, or damage if/when i get towed (which i have already, no issues).
I'm sad and lonely. Someone please hug me

Tow hooks on the car aren't the only safe place to tow one of our cars by.

I don't think you would do anything illegal because it's going to get towed no matter what. Those guys are crafty.

I used to work for a tow company, believe me if they want your car, they will take it. Like the previous post stated, the tow truck operators (for the most part) don't give a Darn about your car. If they don't get a tow, they don't get paid. I have gotten cars that were chained to telephone poles, other cars, sides of buildings, ect. and they all came with me. we carried bolt cutters, torches, floor jacks, lock pic sets and don't forget the big 'ol spool of cable on the back that can drag a car up the side of a hill with no problem. I liked cars to much that is why I don't do that any more, but if you think you can save your car, bury it in cement then cover it up. That might save it if they don't find it lol GOOD LUCK

I've heard that you can rig up a car battery to give a pretty decent shock to anyone who touches your car, but I'd wager you'd have a bit of a liability problem, not to mention pissing off the tow driver. Still it would be fun to see the reaction just once (maybe by remote control).

if they don't get the tow hooks, they're gonna use the suspension and obviously that's gonna do some damage.
