From there you need to remove the Torx screws that hold the glovebox in place and remove the glovebox. You will need to pry it down slightly at the top so as to clear the latch brace at the top.
Once the glovebox is removed look directly to the right of the glovebox opening. If you have keyless remote entry there will be a black box. I can't recall the brand name but, on a '93, it should have CWT5654R printed somewhere on the label. The printing is very small and my 47 year old eyes had to have two pairs of reading glasses stacked together to read it.
If the black box is there then you do have keyless remote entry but when you buy your remote on eBay be sure that it is part number 3544653 with the additional FCC identifier CWT5653T. Don't screw up like I did and buy the part number 9148646 (FCC identifier CWTTFWB1G). The eBay sellers all advertise their remotes to work on more cars than they do, ie: 93-97.
Who needs a remote for a 94.5 to 96.5 850 Part Number 9148646 (FCC identifier CWTTFWB1G) ? I've got one cheap.

Lee thanks for the instructions, I do indeed have the black box, and I'm going to assume the keyless fobs were just lost at one point, and the box still works.
For the first part of your post, you are exactly correct. Alps electric p/n 3545654 with FCC ID CWT5654R
Now is where I'm confused, you then say that I should get the ebay remote with FCC ID CWT5653T, is that correct? Shouldn't it mach the ID on the black box?
Thanks for such a thorough answer, 5 minutes of screwdriving and I found keyless entry, yay!

Actually all FCC identifiers need to have a unique identifier number hence the 1 digit difference. The CWT5653T is indeed the correct match for your receiver.
Looks like we will be bidding against each other on remotes.

Thanks again, excellent info. This guy has four available, no need to bid against eachother, kinda pricey, but probably wont find a better deal. Dunno. Doesn't seem to be many of that FCC ID floating around ebay.

Got in car, locked doors, key from Off to Pos II five times quickly.
On fifth turn left key on, then clicked remote button.
Turned car off, got out, shut door, no worky.
So I tried leaving doors unlocked, no dice.
Never got a light on top of the dash (the alarm light, not the freezing weather light) to come on.
Searched through about 10 posts with programming tips, no new info that I could find.
My manual doesn't have a programming procedure in it like everyone else claims to have. At least not in the "keyless entry" or "alarm" sections.
One post alluded that this programming procedure is for a auto car. Any different ideas for a manual?
Thanks in advance.
edit: found the step by step in Vadis, according to vadis the 5 times off and on is correct it can be to pos 1 or pos 2. Still doesn't help me though, went through the diagnostic manager and checked fuses 15 and 32, they're both good. Tomorrow I'll do the fault checking on the relay and report back.

I used one remote on a 96 auto that had the module already installed. I had no problem programming per the instructions. BTW I did not notice the led flashing either.
I installed the control module in a 95 with manual transmission that did not have the keyless remote option and did not have the led on the dash. This one also works as it should.
Maybe the key fob is defective? Do you know someone that would let you try their known good key fob??

I took the board out of the transmitter, the capacitor that is mentioned in another thread is on the board solid. All the traces and solder joints look good. The buttons click as they are supposed to. Sprayed em with CRC QD anyways to make sure they were clean.
Checked fuses and fuse sockets 6, 15, and 32 per vadis trouble shooting.
Unplugged 5 pin cable to receiver unit, did voltage check with ignition on and off per vadis and voltages were good.
Did resistance test between pins 1&5 and got infinite resistance. Vadis says I should have zero.
Leads me to believe I have a short in the ground system of the receiver connector. Personally I think Vadis is wrong, I fault traced that wire as far into the dash as I felt, even jumpered a ground. I think I should have infinite resistance. I may need to reread that section.
Vadis talks about pulling a relay and checking the plinths. Where would this bunch of relays be? bueller?
Central locking and alarm work fine with locking by key. Have slammed my hood and trunk to make sure those sensors know what's what.
About to say screw it and try those folks who make aftermarket transmitters, and see if I can get my money back from the ebay seller. They claimed in the auction it was tested, I'm curious how they tested it.
any other ideas?

Thanks!
I added a remote controller module to a 96 (see my post above). This is a picture of the module. It is the part with the white writing and the small green connector at the top. Your car should have the wiring with the green connector even if it doesn't have the module.
