Just found this category in a link from another forum and wanted to give kudos to my favorite tech guys. My family's been taking Volvo's to McKevitt in San Leandro (they used to be in Oakland but moved to a new facility, and have a location in Berkeley, but the San Leandro one is more convenient for me) for years.. a 240, then an 850, an S70, and now an XC90 too.

The guys there have been nothing but stellar. We've been consistently impressed with the quality of their work and their customer service. They also won some (well-deserved) award from Volvo (that I can't remember the name of) for 2006.

Courtesy cars available, early and late dropoff/pickup, I highly recommend them. tup.gif

McKevitt provides excellent service.

I've been screwed by dealers before and being I also do a moderate amount of my own work, I was natrually skeptical just being a dealer, having them do some stuff. Yet, they've always proved honest, trustworthy and want to check stuff out and confirm before just replacing.

They offer a 10% service discount on Volvos 10 years and older and will usually try and give you a better deal than list on parts. Bob in parts is excellent, patient and extremely helpful.

Most of the quotes for labor I have found are less than most other dealers want, even competitive with many independents, and everytime I double check the work I can tell it was done right and with care.

All of the service guys have been extremely cool, are pretty knowledgable and very helpful.

They're new San Leandro facility is also extremely nice and modern. They have magazines and a flat panel display if you are waiting on something, they offer new loaners for practically nothing for most services if you reserve them ahead of time.

It is hard to find good, honest dealers, especially that are pretty consistent in their service and attitude, McKevitt is one of them! The guys there do a great job and so is management for running such a great operation in an honest manner!

I'm glad to see the San Leandro location provides great service!

Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the Berkeley location:
While living in Oakland, I made an appointment and took my car in for some routine maintenance and was rather disappointed with the lackluster customer service and less-than-stellar work attitude. I have never been to any Volvo service location where everyone was so apathetic and made no attempt to hide it. So not cool. tdown.gif

Despite my appointment, it took them nearly two hours to perform a service that my favorite local shop always performs in 30 to 45 minutes. They also charged me $15 more than my local shop for that pleasure.

I lived in Oakland for three years while attending school there and I never went back.

Hopefully things have changed in the last couple of years...

I bought my first 850 from Continental in '96. Wow, it's been a while... I remember that same day a soccer mom was checking out her new T5-R that she had just bought and wishing I could afford one. sad.gif

A few years later, Continental was bought out by McKevitt. Now they've moved out of the 'war zone' and to the nice shiny building in San Leandro.
