This thread and the others linked to will be an extremely valuable source of info to me here in the coming months!

Question tho.

Some folks seem to be recommending changing the rear main seal when you do the trans. is there a DIY thread on this? I couldn't find anything on bay 13

It's silly not to. It's a $15-$20 part, max. It's an easy preventive maintenance item.

Here is some info on how to replace it. Click me

Hello, i have a 97 854R with a m56L trans swap and many performance mods. I just had linkage break, which resulted in 1st and 2nd gone and reverse makes trans want to go forward and backward at the same time. just wondering if any one knows if the Canadian spec trans out of a turbo model is a H or L? also are the trans with the speed sensor H or L or was this offered on both trans. in the newer model 98+ are the L and H still offered or did they switch to just H? im looking at a 2000 m56 Canadian spec and just trying to figure out if its going to be a H or L.

Use the search on this FORUM!! 1996-2000 are H for the US. for Canada might be different.

thanks man, thats really all i needed to hear. i tried search but this was the most relevant thing i could find other than personal walk through, and no one has really wrote much about the difference in H and L and what different years have to offer. i think this issue would be great in this topic, it would def be helpful 4 anyone doing a auto to manual swap.

99% sure 00 is m56H be careful to check for internal /external slave your 97 is most likely set up for external, check that the new trans has the casting marks for the ext slave cylinder.

Cruise control

Quote

So, you remember the starter inhibit wire? Turns out the inverse of the signal is used to tell the cruise control it's in a gear and thus safe to engage. D'oh!

So, since the wire isn't present on manual systems, the easiest way seemed to cut the relevant pin on the cruise control relay - 3T:

The relay is located with the fuel pump relay, behind the fuse box that's under the cowl. It's a 3 minute fix and you will have your cruise back instantly.

If you need more details, shoot me a PM.
