Hi Guys, I'm from Tbilisi, Georgia but Live in Boston, US just recently bought car that I always wanted 1998 Volvo S70 T5 , it's Black with tan interior it's Gorgeous car, only problem is it has 300,000 miles I just couldn't find less miles and couldn't wait and bought after test driving it, it runs great Turbo still works only thing I have to replace is rear shocks and front right side CVX , if anybody knows where to buy Volvo parts in US for cheap or any suggestions about my car are more than welcome, I know most of you gonna think that I made huge mistake by buying car with such a big miles , but I was told Volvo's run forever, anywasy I just found engine that has 90,000 miles for $700 and I might buy it if I find good mechanics for reasonable price, but that's in future, I'm hoping to hear from you Volvo owners , thanks to SamS70T5 who invited me to this forum from youtube.

Welcome to VS. That is alot of miles......but you're right in the 98 T5 being one of the more desireable Volvos. Good luck with it.

Im surprised you couldnt find any s70s with fewer miles, thats one of the highest mileages ive seen. I would definitely do some preventative maitinence soon so make sure your car isnt gonna fail you when you need it the most. Welcome to the boards, search and many of your questions shall be answered. Those are a fun car to have if they are running well. I know cause I have one too.

With any luck, that car has already had everything replaced twice over laugh.gif

Love the black 98 T5's though!
Get some brake dust cleaner for your rims. You'll love your car all over again.

1st - Welcome to VS
2nd - Go into your settings/control panel and fill out location, car model, and a pic as a sign
3rd - Buy that motor for $700, that is cheap...believe me...shipping it might be the problem though...
4th - Go you have any experience in car maintainence, b/c you'll need to be able to do some things for yourself...as labor on a volvo can many times be very expensive
Last but not least, here is a short list of vendor where you can source parts for you car:

Thanks guys I feel really good about finding this forum, thanks to all of you for warm welcome , about that engine for $700 it's really close to where I live so I'm gonna have one of my buddy's to help me to get it but I'm sure it's gonna cost lot to put it in, plus I'm not sure about transmission though after I put that engine what if something happens to it, i might need new trans in that case, now it shifts great and has no problem, Black T5 I love your car I wanna make mine look like lil bit like yours , anyways even though it has 300,000 it runs great and I just bought it for $2,000 what you guys think about price did I pay right price? now I wanna first change shocks and front right side CVx does anybody know exactly how long it takes to change each shock and CVX and is there anybody from Boston that knows cheap mechanics, please let me know, thanks once again to all of you hoping to get your support with my new babe smile.gif

Not sure of any cheap mechanics up in Boston but I would get some quotes around first. It may save some money to buy the parts online and then have a shop put them in. FCPGroton and Eeuroparts are both in Conneticut near the RI border so shipping will only be a day or two at the most. Rear suspension should take 1.5-2 hours.

thanks to all once again I never got such a support from other forums before, I had BMW X5 I was on BMW forum , I had 2002 Eclipse GT on 3G eclipse forum , this Volvo forum is the best without question, now i was thinking how much HP do I have as I am on stock I assume 270HP and how much more I can gain let put it this way "Light MoD" "Medium MoD" and "Super MoD" and what would be each HP gain and what kinda parts would it take and how much would it approximetely cost, it's kinda tricky question , I know most of you gonna mention that my engine is not ready for it and also is there anyway to get Manual transmission swoop done without big pain in butt? thanks in advance to all you good people out there.

stock is 236hp at 5100rpm, torque is 243? ft-lbf at 2100-5100rpm

before thinking about doing any mods, get the full 'stage zero' done, to make sure you have a solid base upon which you can improve your engine to get more power

Welcome aboard bro. As a fellow 98 S70T5 owner, I can say you're going to love your car. You don't see too many of them (T5's at least) running around. There's only 3 other S70 T5's in our city and my wife owns one of them and mine is the only one with a manual transmission.

I second everyone's opinion to get that engine. That's dirt cheap but makes me wonder if something is up with it for it being that cheap.

300K miles is a boat load but nothing hundreds if not thousands of other volvos world wide have seen. My wife's dad used to have an old 240 wagon with 275K on the clock and when I met my wife, that was her car. Still was running the stock ignition system which we replaced but I was shocked at how stock everything was (as in.. lots of installed at the factory parts!).

Read up on everything. Bay 13 and the search function are your friends.

Expect to drop a good $400 or so into stage zero parts if you do everything (timing belt and water pump would make it more).

My best advice though is to find a good shadetree volvo mechanic near you becuase the volvo dealership will absolutely own you with labor charges if you get work done there.

So yeah, start buying parts for the full stage zero, don't skip ANYTHING and find you a good local volvo mechanic that won't kill you on labor.
