Volvo Was Sold

Recommended Posts

Wouldn't that make it pretty much the same thing as a BMW?So one, why would BMW do that. Competition within their own brands? Two, if anyone wants that, just buy a damn bimmer. And Volvo's entire company is based on safety, so why would they have a RWD performance oriented model?
Yes, it would make it exactly like a BMW, which is why BMW would never do it. In fact, if BMW did buy the company, you most likely wouldn't see a performance Volvo again.
they won't sell it, it makes ford too much money. Land Rover/Jaguar would be sold eons before Volvo.
They will sell if they need the money badly enough.

If GM was to get Volvo you guys rest assured that I'd make sure they don't screw it up. At the very least I would know what to tell HR since they sent me an e-mail asking which part of the company I would like to work for.

I doubt GM will buy it. They were in Ford's position only a few years ago.

What's funny is that Ford went on a spending spree a while back and acquired all of these other motor companies... formed PAG. Now they're cash poor (short sighted bastages), so they're hurting, and they might have to sell their only really profitable company.

I kind of wish that Ford had bought a minority interest in Volvo, like they did with Mazda. Mazda keeps its separation from Ford, Ford doesn't muck around in the cars that Mazda wants to produce, and there's some decent platform and powertrain sharing happening.

Oh I know... Ford's been in the pooper for awhile just no one cared since GM was down there too. GM still has away to go before they become stable they've alienated an entire generation of car buyers.

GM actually did turn one swedish make into a decent car. So I can't say I will be TOO disappointed. They didnt seem to do any dragstic changes to the body styles either. Im sure they wont butcher Volvo if they do indeed buy it.

Like this article says published six hours ago it make complete sense why ford will sell volvo because they are in financial stress and they need to focus on their own brand. The analyst who published the article feels bmw wont buy it and that it doesnt fit into any other automakers portfolio, so it will be a private sale or a group of people, like chryler went to this year. here is the article http://www.cnbc.com/id/19787979

They did? Last time I looked they were running around with Ecotecs under the hoods... or rebadged a Subaru, and a Chevy as said marque. Styling-wise though, they are nice.

i read an article about GM giving Saab some of their crappy iron blocks to work with and the people at Saab trying to make a halfway decent car with it.

The reason for that was that Saab vehicles were converted to several of the GM platforms and much to everyone's dispair that included GM engines although I know at first Saab did have some of their own engines still availible.

Fuck that, I wouldn't. It would be a terrible investment.

I could really care less who buys Volvo, it has absolutely NO impact to me or anyone here.

Even if someone like Hyundai bought Volvo, it would take at least a couple of years before the customer would see any changes, if any at all.

How so?? Volvo is one of the only profitable divisions Ford has going.

The only question is wether Ford needs the cash and focus on their core brand or hold onto a reliable/profitable division.
