So i just dropped in a pioneer cd player into my 1994 850. I used a metra harness, soldered all the connections, rock solid. Unfortunately, now my rear deck doesnt work. Im using the internal amp on my cd player. They worked fine until the install, standard equipment in my car was a tape deck without an amplifier. Any reasons to why this is happening, should this be normal?

Well i did a little scouting, turns out my rear deck is actually spitting out a pitiful underdriven sounding noise. My cd player is a top-end pioneer premier deh-p930, ive had it for a couple years. It has a built-in 4x50 amp, probably closer to 4x25 RMS, but i didnt have any trouble driving 4 6x9's in my old maxima with it...any suggestions?

Ugh...last thing.
I ALSO just found out that the body shop that replaced my door (just got it back today) used a salvaged door, and sure enough, a broken speaker. My left rear door's speaker is ripped to shreds and the tweeter is dangling from the wires. Pitiful.
I know volvo speakers are wired funny...coincidence?

Yeah, thats my thoughts...does anyone know for sure how a volvo stock system is wired? Bing?

from what i've found in my own car, the left rear and deck are wired in parallel and the right rear and deck are the same way. there are independent wirings for the tweeters and front speakers. HOWEVER, i am almost positive that the impedance on the speakers are all 8 ohms. most aftermarket decks want four ohm speakers for maximum power transfer. you want to have your rear and deck speakers attached in parallel (as they should already be) and your tweeters and front speakers attached in parallel. this will lower the impedance of the overall system to four, thus giving you optimal power transfer. my guess is that some wiring is messed up on your car and because of this only one speaker is hooked up on one side. this would cause bad power transfer (muffled sound) and also if you use your fader and balance knobs, you should notice that they don't operate in a linear fashion (as far as volume goes)...

^That is correct. The same power that you're putting in through the rear deck speakers also powers the rear door speakers.

all speakers are 8 ohms (for the most part) except for the front doors, which are 4 ohms. there are exceptions where for those with 6 speaker setups instead of 8, the rear door (wagon) or rear deck (sedan) are also 4 ohms. for those with 8 speaker setups, the rear door and the 1) rear deck (sedan) or 2) tailgate pillar tweet (wagon) are wired parallel according to the haynes manual..
