For a few months i've been thinking about putting a a switch that allows me to turn my amp on and off seperate from the HU. Why you ask, well so i can listen to the radio while parked without having the car turned on. If i let my radio play without the car on, my battery is dead in about 10 mins. All i did was wire a SPST switch in-line with my amp turn-on wire between the HU and the amp. It turned out better than i even expected and it looks really good. now for pics...

It only took about 45 mins to wire this up and drill a hole in the dash plate. Also i messed up and drilled too small of a hole, and when i tried to push the switch through it got stuck tight. Luckily when i turned it around the switch was perfectly flush mounted so i just popped it back in If you want to do this, a switch cost about $4 and you need 2 ring connectors and possibly splices, depending on how oyu hooked up your HU and amp. here's a few shots of the trunk too...

Your battery is Dead in about 10 Minutes?????

Me thinks it is time for a new battery.

In every car I have ever owned I have been able to play the stereo at decent volume levels for 3 hours or more without having to start the car.

I generally will turn down the Sub, but I do not need to turn it off and my systems have always been entirely powered by an external amp.

In some cases there were 3 amps in the car.

But hey, if that solves your problem then that is good.

Also, why did you not mount your amp under a seat?

i always got problems with my battery no matter what car. I guess its the price i pay for buying the $35 ones If drycells wern't so grossly overpriced id get one but more than $100 for a battery is retarded. I didn't mount the amp under the seat because i like to be able to see it all in one spot. Eventually ill build a nice looking amp rack and maybe a custom box, but right now im broke as fiz-uck.

so you just want the headunit to powr your internal speakres wire you have the car in park so the amp whcih is powering hte sub dont go off and drain your battery right?

not a bad idea, but i agree with the sentatiment that if your car's batteries dies in 10 mins, you either have a bad battery, or an immesenly powerful system, and from waht I can see, its not a huge current hog of a system...

not knocking on your idea at all, but you should get your batt checked out, I have a cheap 45 dollar in my old car before, and it would play for a good 30 mins with about 600 watts of RMS power before getting too weak to start...
