back up smack up.

i'll just start over.

it was a work computer so i didn't have my music on it. (if i lost that, i'd be jumping off a bridge)

had all my work files and funny pics is all. i did banking on it but apparently the HD is so shot nothing can be retrieved so thats good.

he can't even power up the HD. memory was fine.

did he try pulling the hard drive out and hooking up to an external SATA drive? that can work

does your company have a redundant server where you connect to their network and they keep a weekly image of your HD?

yeah. the HD wouldn't take power period so its really shot.

my company does everything through "outlook express" so i can get what i had laying there but all the stuff in files is gonzo.

so what do you guys know about 1.8T Quattro Audi's in the 2005 year range?

I know that engine is basically the same engine as my sisters, and that the electrical gremlins are non stop.

VW/Audi seems to be ultra fragile, sensitive, poorly designed, not meant to go the long haul.

But they're sure pretty.

ROFL , yeah we got both Hungry Jacks and Burger King but not sure if the latter is open.

BTW: Got a discount on my rims of $90 by joining an Oz Skylines Forum.:lol:

My brother is a Audi mechanic in Austin... he has a 2005 1.8t Manual Ultra Sport Quattro on his lot... what are some of the issues with them?

Ok, here's what I know plagues the 1.8T engine

Coil packs = flashing CEL, missing, sputtering

MAF = Bad throttle response, CEL, poor fuel econ.

O2 Sensors = CEL, too rich or too lean, sluggish, overheating

Throttle body = poor idle, bad response, EPC light,

Sludge from a reduced oil capacity to fit longitudinally

ECT sensor should be updated to newest "green top" version sensor, will cause poor running, too rich

The "suction jet pump" can crack or get clogged. It's under the intake manifold on A4's and is a vacuum hose T of sorts with many check valves inside.

the Dump Valve on these cars is famous for failing

The SAS valve clogging, letting exhaust pass into SAS pump, giving a CEL of a lean condition.

The Water Pump impellers are made out of composite plastic, break and cause the timing belt to jump off.

The turbo air intake "snorkel" becomes loose, leaks air or oil onto engine.

The Fuel Pressure Regulator is famous for failing, causing lean/rich conditions.

The FPR vacuum hose, located at the top front of the intake mani is also known to snap off, or become clogged.

The Coil Pack wiring harness also is known to fail, the wire insulators crack, the wires eventually crack and the car will show signs of a failed coilpaclk, but it's really the harness.

SEVERAL ground points are not screwed on tight enough. Mostly on top of the cam cover, near the coil packs.

The electric coolant circulation pump leaks, seizes, shorts out.

If I think of anything else, Ill post it up.

I would stay away from the 1.8T audis simply cause i've heard the engine fails a lot due to sludge buildup. Maybe the diesel is better or doesn't have that problem. Just stick to Volvo's or Bimmers lol.
