I have a Sirius satellite radio and an iPod, both of which I'd like to be able to play through my volvo factory installed radio in my '99 V70. I've been playing them through radio frequencies, but the radio bandwidth is sufficiently crowded here that I get a lot of static introduced. I just want to wire them into the HU directly.
Both have a line-out with a mini-jack. I have a basic radio-shack cord that breaks output into left and right channels via RCA plugs.
So, the challenge, which I know from reading post upon post here at Volvospeed is a challenge met by many others previously, is to get RCA plugs coming out of my SC-816.
Here's what I've done:
Purchased a Peripheral VOLIL, which plugs into CD changer port on back of my HU. It's supposed to convert the volvo-proprietary signals coming from that plug to the pin setup of a standard Alpine m-bus plug. I connected the yellow 12V wire from the VOLIL dongle to the yellow/violet ACC+ cable coming into the standard wiring harness (13A).
THEN, I added an Alpine KCM-122B cable, which plugs into standard Alpine m-bus plug and converts it into RCA female plugs.
Here's the schematic.
SC-816 CD input --> Peripheral VOLIL --> Alpine KCM-122B --> RadioShack RCA to miniplug cable --> Satellite radio (or iPod)
I disconnected the power lede to the HU for 30 minutes (the VOLIL instructions said that was necessary to reset the radio). Then when I plugged everything back in, powered on the HU, and entered the radio code, I expected to be able to hit the CHGR button and hear input from whichever device was currently plugged into my miniplug.
Instead, I get an 'EEEE' display, and the unit reverts to the FM setting it was on before hitting the CHGR button.
I don't know where to begin troubleshooting this. Is the problem with my setup? the Volil cable? the Alpine cable?
I've seen several people refer to the Blitz-something-or-other that retails for about $99. I went with these products instead in an effort to save money. A mistake?

your problem is that the cd changer will "talk" to the HU. With the setup above the head unit is not detecting the cd changer and thus displaying and error and not enabling the rca's.
you need to have a working cd changer or simulator and then splice into the music signal wires. this way the hu thinks whats coming down the signal lines is from the cd changer.

That explains a lot.
I bought the blitzsafe volvo to RCA adapter (which costs more), and everything works fine, so I assume, based on your reply that it is sending a signal to the HU that simulates a CD-changer.
Thanks for the clarification.

Hello,
What HU radio do you have? Is the blitzsafe adapter also for the HU603? I want to connect a PC to my HU603.

I have an SC-816.
Check out Blitzsafe's Web site at http://www.blitzsafe.com to see whether they have an adapter that will suit your needs.
