i was thinking about stripping off the vinyl and replacing it with a different material that will stretch in all directions and not exhert as much pressure when it shinks like a fake suede. maybe the audio guys can help us souce such a material?

I have the same problem on my 98 xc (oak interior, lite tan and prolly the same as uyrs)...mine was still under warranty...i bitched to volvo...they compromised and gave me the panels fer free and told me that i needed to have them put on myself....so, i still have them in the garage, in an unopen box....if ur glue injecting doesnt werk...we can talk about the panels if u wish...
it is a glue issue...so im told
ps....my 98 glt has had no problems....go figure (grey interior)...maybe itsa color issue?

We've got a buyer for our '98 S70 GLT and just in the last 2 weeks I noticed that friggen door panel separation issue. It's a taupe interior by the way. First time for it to happen and it's 2 doors. Te driver door was just a small 2" x 2" piece and within days it's gone all the way from corner to corner. Rear passanger door is worse.
Anyone have any newer information? Is the kit from Volvo any good? PITA? What about new panels form a cost perspective? Anyone price new panels?
The buyer didn't question it but they are also getting a good deal if we accept their offer, which I think we will do tonight.

1. Why has this thread been brought back?
2. Yeah just get it reupolstered it is better in the long run unless you can find new panels from a R.
3. What is on their now is *not* leather it is vinyl or something like it.

1. Because it was the most recent thing that came up in Search yesterday. If I would have started a new thread, I have a feeling you would have questioned that too and asked why I didn't search.
2. We just sold (just deposited the check and they'll take delivery later) the car so I'm not going to do anything with it as the buyer didn't mention it. I thought if there was something new, something feasible, I would offer to take care of it.
3. Ya, I was surprised to see so many calling it leather. I will say it is refreshing to look into this 8 year old car and see seats that are much closer to leather than our other 2 cars that are 2004 Excursion and 2005 Pacifica domestics with their "Leather Seating" which is seating surface only and even that is bonded leather containing not more than 2% leather fiber.
'98S70R, Thanks for that link! It looks to be just before I searched so I don't know how I missed it.
And no, I can't imagine the mess trying to inject and glue it back in.
Thanks and adios!
