Sometimes when i go to start the car, it cranks and fires just fine, but then just as fast as the RPMs shoot to 1.5k or so, it drops right back down to 0.

It only happens once in a while. And if i start the car, and immediately hit the gas, the RPMs will shoot up to, lets say 3k, and then drops back to zero. The car iself starts and cranks like brand new, its just sometimes it seems like its being starved on gas right after firing.

Im thinking it must be fuel pump related. Any other ideas?

best way to clean it? Im not too familiar with this car.

after about 5 or 6 tries (sometimes more), it will finally catch and run like normal. seems to happen more often when the gas is below the "6" on the gauge, which leads me to believe its more fuel pump related. But im not the daily driver, im just going off of what my mom says (who is the DD of the car), and what ive seen the one or two times ive driven it the last week or so.

after the first try, do you take the key out and then put it back in and try? or do you just crank it? if it stalls after you crank it the first time, then you pull out the key and put it back in and then crank it again and it stays on it might be a problem with the ecm not recognizing the key

What happens is, you put the key in, turn, crank, fire, dead. If i was to leave the key in there after it died, it would just crank endlessly. if i take the key out and put it in again, it would try again, sometimes with the same results, and sometimes it stays.

i had this happen about four years ago on my S70 and ended up getting the ignition barrel replaced by the dealer which solved my problem.

this is immobilizer....its normal for them to start and then stall if there is a problem...

common problems are the antenna ring and sometimes the wire terminals on the immo control module and antenna ring dont have proper tension

Just had this happen to me back in November. Immobilizer. It would do it very intermittently.
