Anyhow, I went to a really reputable car stereo shop and they told me otherwise. They had the harness for my 850, I told him that I have the factory amp. The guy tells me that in my case, I wouldn't need to by-pass the amp and that the HU will act like a pre-amp and going to the factory amp, it'll be like low-level inputs to the factory amp. Does that make sense??? Will that work??? I don't want to blow anything up.

Ok, I did search on installing a HU for my 850, but I have the factory amp. I've been reading that I need to run a by-pass for the amp, otherwise if I hook it up directly, it's gonna blow????.....is this true????

i didn't bypass the factory amp, and it's just fine...as long as you don't want a one mile radius to hear your highs and mids, you won't blow anything!!

*IF* the harness has the mini-din connector that converts the amp cable (mini-din) to RCAs to the head unit's low-level preouts, then it's fine...
If it uses high-level outs, I'd be concerned.
