If you want to gut a car, buy one that was built for performance in the first place where amenities were already sacrificed to a certain extent, not the other way around. With this car, you don't have performance, but you have the luxury. Strip it of the luxury and you end up with nothing.
Use the car as it was intended for. Gutting a Volvo makes about as much sense as taking a dually pick-up truck and installing suspension to autocross. If you want a good reduction in weight, remove the spare-tire/jack. That alone will make the car much faster according to your butt-dyno.

I will not be as negative as HPTJoe, but I would not even think this up unless your car is getting SERIOUS performance modifications to it. When your money is big big big big, then let's talk this up and we can discuss it over some tea.

Charles drives his volvo maybe 200 miles a month. Last thing I drove ended in W and had AC and nice 90 pound bucket seats

My thoughts exactly. Theres no real easy losses w/out a big loss in luxury (other than the spare tire).

If I had to pick what I loved most about my volvo (besides the safety) is all the little comforts that it has.

Agreed. The C5 is the low-performance version of the Z06. They are slow.

I think you're missing Joe's point. Buying a Honda in really any form would be completely against what he advised you to do. He say get a car that was built for performance...
