Damn, I bad mouth VS all the time and not even a mention? I figured I would have pissed someone off.

Cause when you make threads like this:

850 Call Out Thread...

nobody gives a shit.

Loved reading this thread, was really cool to see how Carlisle went even though I did not go. Thanks Chuck!

Who needs voca for the discount ?

I just call Jamie Putman or John Starnisky .

Get better pricing from either of them with out the discount then I do from my local one with .

And either can get parts to me next day.

Oh I'm sorry your local dealer SUCKS! ;) I've got my dealer is right down the street and can get parts that day and its the best dealer in DC. Just ask Volvorules or the rest of you may know him as the guy with the killer 242 drift car at Carlisle? Or Justin you may remember him as the guy you were calling Ben and he told you "I'm not Ben..."

nah I get stuff from either of them since its usally close to 40% cheaper then the local dealer.

I do have three dealers with in 20 min but Jamie tends to be the best to deal with

Just my 2 cents..... I personally did not make Carlisle this year due too more important issues other than vehicles and I'm about 10 minutes away? However I have been there for many many years not only involved in the Volvo community but in the Saab community as well. I know ladies/gentlemen there from all the groups, but the folks I know are just totally enthusiastic about cars not political aspects. There are many great products and deals to be had there ,not too mention communication lines created from such a great gathering. Carlisle is a huge gathering from all over and the license plates justify such and sometimes freak me out knowing that such a gathering was created in basically my backyard.

I personally like to stay under the radar, V/S for some reason has hooked me and has become my site of choice for Swedish cars. Charles is the operator of this site and I respect his decisions, agreeing with them or not. They are fair ones from what I have witnessed however many others I know nothing about!

As part of the OH moderator crew I feel like we are council under the administrators for this community and Charles has made his decisions on such as he sees fit. If I think he is unjust on a subject posted, I will call him on such, which I have! This is his site as I see it and if personally you do not like it, you always have the option too leave?

I share my knowledge freely here ...I sell no products and financially gain "nothing" from this site. I do this site because I can and enjoy doing such, I have the option too leave at anytime as well.

I really enjoy seeing the pictures and hearing the feedback from such meets. Whether it's on the east coast, west coast, north, south, freakin Guam I don't care. Deep down I will always have a passion for cars and Swedish ones at that. So enjoy the site, respect opinions of the operator and the community thoughts.

;)

First off....I didn't even know I could get a 20% discount from the dealer! And second:

I couldn't agree more with Hussein here. I've only been an active member for a short while, and I've only had help. The occasional smartass comments and answers were to be expected, but for the most part I have no regrets. For everybody that badmouths George, it's understandable. He's quite expensive, but it's also quite worth the extra penny. After dealing with him, I found that's he's a really cool guy and is completely devoted to making a happy customer....no matter what it takes. We had a misshap with an ECU that he made me, and three days later a new ECU was in the mail. I think that people on here just need to calm down sometimes, and not be so critical of everybody else. Keep negative comments to yourself, inside jokes are fine, but don't be an asshat just because you can..ya know??

Thanks for the thread.

Since I joined late last year, I have found this site to be mostly helpful - the only detractor has been pointed out - members who will rag on other's threads/ go waay OT. It's definitely a detractor, and sometimes hard not to feed into.

I drove to Carlisle with VS members, and hung out with mostly VS members. I didn't even go over to the VCOA.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with being "cheap" - in this day & age, anyway of getting what you want done at the best price possible is what makes sense, to me anyway. I guess there are plenty of people to whom money is no object, but personally, I have more admiration for those who try to work it out without just funneling buckets of cash into a project. That's definitely one of the attractions of this site.

IPD has always supported us. Now, with Lucky on board, I think VS and IPD can definitely do good things together. I agree about Sig at Stylin also, the guy is always available to help, and he backs up his products, and moreover, his customers.

I have mixed reviews about George and VIVA. For Brickfest, he tried to contribute, but sent completely the wrong stuff, so that went down the drain, and I have heard about overpricing, but honestly, his stuff is for the SS guys anyway, so no worries from my side about that. There are a few things that the VS community could use, but those are also things that can be found elsewhere. I think my final opinion about George will be building up in the next couple of months. He has promised to eat the charges and give me the correct RICA tune, and then work with me and RICA to get my car dialed in. If I choose that route, and all goes well, I'll give George the thumbs up, but otherwise, I'll reserve my opinion for a later date.

As far as VCOA is concerned, I can't speak for the national chapter, but I can vouch for the West Coast chapter and the Golden Gate chapter. With people like Lee and Scott (ubergeek) running the show, we have gotten a good deal of support, and we have been working alot more closely on the Left Coast to get the younger guys involved, and based on Davis, Tahoe, SoCal, and other VCOA events, I must say that it's working. I'd have to credit Lee and Scott for that, of-course. In the last year and a half, however, I have seen their visits to VS dwindle, but most assuredly, Scott will be getting an email from me if it continues.

The other vendors that had contributed to Brickfest (Engstrom, Rocketeer), got the can or something. I remember Rocketeer being pretty good, but I don't know what happened to John. Bo at Engstrom supposedly croaked, and the member that won the prize from them never got it. I faxed them, called them, emailed them, and did everything besides visit them to close the deal, but no go. Bo actually showed up to Brickfest in his S60R and personally offered the raffle prize, but never came through....I hope the guy is okay, but from what I later heard, he was doing just fine, but refused to finish the deal.

EST, Frank. Good guy. Supports in any way he can, and almost every time. He sent me cash to cover the food, and in exchange, I put up the EST banner with a sign saying that the food was provided by EST. Totally rocked, and we appreciate that. Frank has always been friendly with me, and we have emailed about products several times.

But, I still want to go back to IPD. It's amazing that a company that started years ago, and with the older generation of cars, has kept moving with the times, and has continued to support the Volvo community through all the changes. For the last 2 years, they pretty much disappeared from VS, but I think Kevin brought them back into the game a little, and now Lucky is visiting the site frequently, and supporting us. I asked Scott to contribute, and I didn't get a reply from him. Instead, I got a 75lbs box filled with IPD parts, catalogs, and circulars. I didn't even have to ask twice. I wish I could buy more stuff from them, but I think my car has surpassed what they have to offer. They are also going to hook me up with the Stage III tune on my car, and then dialing it in on their ECU. We'll see who out-does who....IPD vs. ViVA....although I may only choose one of them to do the dialing.

Either way, the vendors need to keep up with VS, because whether we're cheap or economical, or whatever they want to call it, this is the place where word gets around, and a reputation can be had, or un-had.

I personally hate VS. It has taken up more hours of my time than sleep and work combined, and I have spent all of my money on my stupid car. But the community, and the thrill of doing something I like to do, brings me back every time!

Another thing I would like to add to this: There is a huge young population here. A lot of us have recently or are still in the process of graduating higher education. It wont be long until poor college wages turn into real career wages. We have been grown up on Volvos with semi limited purchasing power for parts. Soon that will change. The cycle will continue as the late models get passed down to children and they grow through the same process... although some of us just decided to buy a Volvo in the first place. Anywho, I think it is important for a vendor to evolve with this concept in mind.

Let me first off start by thanking Chuck for his time and efforts in building, maintaining, and baby sitting this site. The community and knowledge far surpasses what I have found anywhere else. If only there was more S60 exposure (which will eventually happen) I would be here more often. BTW Chuck, your post kind of got me amped up and I will soon renew my "supporting member" status that just lapsed so I can help support this forum.

About George and Viva...I honestly have little problem with him as a person. I cannot fault him for trying to appeal to a more affluent clientele and pedal his higher margin products. He's a business man in that sense and he has to go where the money is. Hell, he got me for a set of Samco hoses for my S70 that I could have found cheaper but I was willing to pay a mark-up for the convenience of knowing it was tried and truly would fit. I knew I overpaid and had a little buyers remorse BUT that was my own fault...not Viva's at all. His customer service was good and he has answered many of my inquiries timely.

Unfortunately his VS bashing is disheartening to hear but it is also third (or fourth) party information at this point. It is troubling to think that a vender would ostrasize a group of enthusiasts that will eventually be his strongest customer base. I am proof of what Val said. I started out with an S70 and traded it in for an S60R. Had I witnessed such VS bashing I would have been entirely turned off to said vender and even paid a premium not to associate myself with them. With that said, I have not witnessed any such violation in-person or on threads on Swedespeed. However, I will take Chuck's information under consideration and do a little more shopping around for my next purchase.

Let me once again thank Chuck for all his help in the past as well as going forward. I believe his creation here has brought all of us a more enriched Volvo experience.

So maybe if people here were just a little nicer or kept their rude comments to themselves maybe I wouldnt bash them or VS so much.

I don't mean to pick you out just using your line as an example here...

i would just like to say that if you have a problem with people on the boards or with what they say, don't bring it outside of the community. If you do, the problem doesn't get solved and then all the people who would be interested to possibly join might not.

so in fact, you're only it worse by "bashing" the site. instead, why not bring it up within the site and help solve a problem?

it seems that making people aware of one aspect of VS is only detrimental. We all benefit from the knowledge of all the other members, whether they be right or wrong.

that's that whole point of a community like this, isn't it? to exchange help and information.

Some add a tinge of crass to what they say here, but it's only because they're opinionated and i guess don't have a check on what they say, but you have to deal with that, not make it an issue for people who have no idea about how helpful the site is.
