Purchase off eBay from OnlineProductsUSA a Drawtite Class II receiver hitch, 1-2” and 1-1 7/8” balls, receiver cover, Modulite converter w/ circuit protection and wiring install kit for $213.70 delivered.
Installation of receiver is exactly to instructions as provided. (Hint - as you have your car jacked up on jack stands, take off the two bolts of the bumper. As my car came from the North, taking them off was challenging but once off I had to replace them as they were corroded do to about a 1/8” diameter. It is a good time to check for and other rusting issues as well and correct that too.)
The most challenging part of this project is the wiring.
I took the wiring install kit wire which is a direct connect from the battery with a 10 amp in line fuse back to the converter. I fished it through the access point by the master brake cylinder into the inside of the car under the dash, gently releasing the plastic covers from their clips, I fished the wire under the carpet right next to the main wiring channel going back to the left rear.
You will only need to remove the left side rear access panels, one on the floor and one on the lower corner wall.
Take the converter and wire as follows using 3M crimp connects:
Converter Wire Purpose Volvo Wire
Yellow Left Turn Signal Green
Red Stop Yellow/Gray
Brown Tail/License Green/Yellow
Green Right Turn Blue/Green
White Ground Screw into ground on left side wall
There is a clump of wires coming off of the rear bulb failure sensor and divides into two, one going to the left side and one going to the right side. The blue/green wire is in the right side clump. All other wires are on the left side.
The black wire from the battery is connected to the convertes's red battery line. Finally, then install the fuse.
I did not want to put the harness connector outside by the receiver as I plan only on occasional usage and can easily take the flat wire trailer connection out through under the tailgate door when needed. Otherwise it is hidden under the left rear floor access panel.
