So i talked to Motec today about the M800. It seems it will work on the 99> cars with electronic throttle,DIS,and VVT. The only thing i need to find out is if the volvo electronic throttle body will work with the motec system. But it seems i can get systems to work on 4.3 4.4 and me7. Total Standalone may be the only option in the end

motec is a company, they make engine control goodies. the m800 is a sophisticated piggyback that integrates with factory ecus and let's the user alter the fuel and timing curves, and probably lots more.

they also make bitchin standalone systems, this is the ultimate solution for anyone here, but it comes at a cost (ie. its really expensive) and you need to be able to go tune on a dyno to get the best results.

Think more like $3,500+ when it's all said and done, including 25+ dyno pulls.

But it's worth every penny.

The dyno tuning would take hours to do pull after pull will be done to fine tune the car in. Everything must be tuned to the T

Rob,

Obviously you got some money...650whp might be a little too much for a fwd car you should use the S70 AWD differential and make it AWD that would be phat. I would love to see an AWD C70 i would shat my pants...

ps...my birthday is coming up heres my list if you could be so kind as to by me it biggrin.gif

18" HRE 350R's
BSR stage III
Ohlins full coilover suspension and 1k in gift certificates in VMS

I think that will do

wink.gif just kidding but thats like my dream all that stuff right there oh and the euro kristal head lights or whatever they are called..give me like 2 years and i will have all that stuff maybe even less
oh btw what turbo do you have on ur c70? t3/t4?

I really dont think the AWD system can handle even near that amount of power...and you need a real permanent 4WD system to do good launches...

The proper tuning for a full engine management system does require a good deal of dyno tuning in order to be dialed in properly, with someone who knows what they are doing. This is the key here make sure you have access to a person who has done this many times before, on any car really its the experience that counts for top level tuning of this nature. In reguard to o2 sensors, you are not putting a 3000 dollar emu onto a car that does already have one, if you do you are an nice guy. but the a/f controller alone with a wideband, but no emu will not make it to power levels beyond about 400 hp range, so not nearly enough for rob's endevor.
I might drive a 40 year old mans car but that means I can keep on tuning it for 18 more years before I need a new one!

oh well i thought maybe it would be because i got a friend with a 1990 GSX (AWD turbo) he's got a big 16g in it and fmic and he has like 350 to the ground running around 20+ psi and he doesnt have any traction problems but i guess he doesnt have as much hp as rob is going to have. he has more goodies than fmic and 16g btw

here in europe we dont have that particular car model so I dont know anything about that...however i'm willing to bet it has much more of a "real" AWD system than the one Volvo used for the 850/70 series

Rob:

Since your considering going to EMS anyways, why not just grab a pre 99 c70 pedal assembly and use throttle by wire? The VVT is cool and all but I figured you would rather lock that out, even if you dont there are ALOT of EMS options out there. Motec is darn good though... I did hear rumors that it was NOT in English. I may be thinking of a different EMS.

Personally Rob, learn how to use it too. Im sorry, Im building the car, shelling out the cash, I would want to know how to tune it too.

Doug, yeah if i do the motec system i figured we would move away from the Electronic throttle and do our own custom throttle bodies and use the pedal assembly like you said from a pre 99 or we could make our own. Doug i plan on learning the software but i want one of the main guys to tune the car from Motec. I would have this guy in from cali to whereever i am tuning my car. All in all if i go to the motec system later on down the road here, im going to do alot more under the hood and put the car in high 10's on the street and im crazy enought to do it
