Todays Project: Rear Exhaust Cam Seal
29 March 2012 - 08:04 PM
My sons 98 V70 lpt blew out the rear cam seal. I fixed it today, and I have a question. This engine has 200,200 miles on it. The oil trap and all the ancillary hoses etc.were done 70,000 miles ago. I do not see any signs of excessive crank case pressure. I have had this car for the last 160,000
miles. I have always used 5/30 synthetic oil in it and change it every 3,000 miles. A recent oil analysis confirmed that the engine is in great shape and
is expected to last for a very long time. That is, providing I continue the present service schedule.
Ok, enough background... Question? what made this seal pop out of its seat? And since I only replaced the rear exhaust cam seal, should I expect
the other cam seals to leak or blow out too?
I would have replaced all the cam seals on this job but this one was an emergency that had to get done quickly.
Any comments or opinions are appreciated. Thanks, flukey
