Crankcase fumes is a mixture of combustion gases mixed with engine oil, not so much in new engines but more so in older engines when rings and seals loose their effectiveness. Oil separator tries to separate the oil out of the fumes as it travels from crankcase on it's way to the intake via flame trap for recombustion.
Are you seeing smoke out of the dipstick tube?
