Topics I've Started

Sowo 2012

22 May 2012 - 12:33 AM

I've gotten a little bit of editing done tonight, will likely have all my pictures done by the middle to end of the week.

Here are a few just to give an idea and I'll add to the original post with others later on.

Urgent Assistance Needed, Right Rear Wobble

15 May 2012 - 03:10 AM

Alright Guys, bear with me here, lots of details.

Heres a little timeline

Never had a wobble there before

Put on New wheels, noticed a healthy portion of wheel weights on that wheel and figured it was probably not balanced perfectly.

Put the new wheels on and that corner started to develop a wobble. Figured it was the wheel.

Replaced Rear pads and rotors (pads were VERY low, almost to the backing plate, installed akebono pads and duralast rotors)

Installed Adapter style Spacers, wheel still wobbled.

Took the wheel off and installed one of my old neptunes, wobble got worse

Brought the car home and checked for play in the wheel which would lead to the wheel bearing being bad, that resulted in ZERO play.

I plan to remove the wheel and adapter and try with the stock lug bolts on the neptunes so essentially the setup would be exactly as it was except for new rear brakes.

Along with this, there is a vibration that I get felt through the brakes at very low speed braking, almost like a rough grinding, I occasionally got it with the old pads and rotors, which lead me to find out the pads were very low so I replaced the pads and rotors. Now I get it with probably 1/5 of low speed braking situations. If I pump the brake once that vibration goes away while slowing down during that same braking period.

My only idea left is that the right rear brake caliper is tweaking out in some form and that even though I replaced the pads and rotors, it's still bad.

Any ideas? :(

Just looked at VADIS, the low speed braking issue should be because of the shims per this note.

Quote

Resonance at the rear of the car during braking
Resonant vibration at the rear of the car during low speed braking (most often when the brake discs are hot after repeated braking), can be solved by replacing the shims.
The vibrations normally occur when the car has new rear brake discs/pads.
To replace see Installing shims .

S70/v70 Front Bumper

28 April 2012 - 06:10 AM

looking for a clean front bumper cover, red would be cool but any color that isn't gouged and dented will work for my needs.

Not looking to break the bank, let me know what you might have.

Shorter Rear Coilover Springs

24 April 2012 - 06:39 PM

I picked these springs up from Touge Factory which is the lone supplier of "Stance" Coilovers in the USA. Got em for $40, they are 8" 2.5 diameter 450# coilover springs (probably should have gone a bit softer but ehh) FWIW the D2 springs are 12.5" 250#

Took measurments instead of many pictures because numbers will speak for themselves. All heights were measured to the middle of the fender.

Height with D2's with lower adjusters in
Left - 24"
Right - 24.5" (not adjusted all the way down, adjusted .5" up from bottom)

Height with 8" springs in and adjusters all the way up
Left - 24.25"
Right - 24.25"

Height with adjusters all the way down with 8" springs
Left - 23.25"
Right - 23.25"

First impressions, ride is stiffer, and I still need to get some upper perches to hold the spring in place better because with this setup the spring is just resting around the protruding nipple on the upper spring mounting location. Only over one big dip in the road did I hear the spring move, but that's enough for me to decide to get some perches made to help solve that problem.

For $40 and getting .5-1" more low it's definitely worth considering... I think I may try to find some 9" springs in a softer spring rate to test out also.

Just a few pics of the springs and such too.

I think this was all the way down

and adjusted pretty much to the top to maintain current ride height before I get my new wheels on and allow the car to go lower.

Hope this helps some people out, I'm going to be messing with it a bit more in the coming weeks before SoWo.
