^ I loves ya work ! I was thinking a long cable so you could put one down at the turbo area . I have never looked but , the plastic wheel tubs could be an easy place to cut some vents , route a flexi tube to the hot area ? There has got to be a good option to cutting that lovely bonnet up.....(hood for you lot...)L.

^I know what you mean , i have so much to do without another task.....so many unfinished jobs...
At least my S70T5 has moved on so i am less tempted to swap the motor/gearbox into the V70T so now i can concentrate on the upgrades to it...
I will however see what they have at the workshop to play with and consult my other man who is an expert tech on Volvo upgrading as well.
Maybe the exterior air temp sensor could be extended to go to the areas , it would be good enough to show what we need , albeit a bit fiddly to move all the time....
Onward and upward.
I still like the idea of vents into the wheel well area , i remember that from racers of old , some ill fated supercars etc....

FCP do a full kit , 4-5 hours as a novice/2hours for my mechanic ( or so he says........ ) get some hose and worm drive clamps for the other hoses down there as they will be no good either , easier to do while the inlet mani is off , check the hoses off the intercooler for cracks too....It seems that a lot of engine failures come from the cooling system being neglected and on my old T5 the whole system was replaced , but NOT the thermostat , a $13 part that takes so little time was jammed and caused a slight overheat and so now it blows some gasses into the coolant , CHANGE THE THERMOSTAT regularly.....

^ I like your thinking , it would be good to have a few spare bonnet's and plat with them , it would be an idea to have some temperature sensors in the important areas with some logging of whats going on just to rule this out for VS members future reference....
I have a good friend at a repairer/wrecker , if i had time i am sure i could play wi some scrap 850 hoods he should have sitting around , i must investigate this....

Interesting Guys , i like it when some full on technical jargon is explained in layman's terms , thank-you!
Now , what about a full length venturi pipe/box section that has an opening near the turbo area , now i havent had a look under the wagon and i imagine the AWD will be tighter , but using a duct from front to back , it wouldnt need to be big , with the vent positioned correctly near turbo 'zone' should work ?? This is getting a bit "race car " and stuff done in wind tunnel design but it would be interesting to see some testing , even poly-pipe would do it as a test.......
I just dont like vents cut in the body-work , STIs just look stupid.......EVOs with the vents maybe ..
Some time back i read about wheel area / under guard is a nice low pressure place to draw air from engine bay via vents in the sides , as long as water doesn't splash in from puddles.
Watercooled exhaust mani , ALA inboard boat motors??
