Topics I've Started

Opposite Afrs

17 May 2013 - 02:51 AM

Driving my 850 the past few days and since everything it has been running great on the new ARD tune. All of a sudden, driving today the car will barely accelerate. Basically hits a wall. I checked the plugs, the gap is still fine and they only have about 100 miles on them. Relatively new cap and rotor. No boost leaks, no vac leaks, everything looked good.

Went back out and watched the AFRs while this happened. I was essentially getting reversed fueling. When I accelerate, the car goes stupid lean and won't move. I let off the gas and it goes super rich for a few seconds before going lean like it should between shifts. I haven also been getting horrible gas mileage.

Before the recent additions (greens, meth, turbo rebuild, and ard blue tune) the car ran great, no issues. And it has been running great for the past 5 days as well, this is literally mid-way home form work it started doing this.

Any thoughts? I'm leaning towards an ECU related issue at the moment.

Latch On Hood Broke Loose

13 May 2013 - 01:43 PM

The driver side latch on the hood that "hooks" into the latch on the car (not the safety latch in the center of the hood) broke loose from the hood. The hood is two pieces of sheet metal and this is stuck in between them. Has this happened to anyone else? What are my options? Just getting a new hood. I don't know how much material is on the backside the latch if I can drill a hole through the hood and into that and run a few rivets. Kind of sucks since now I can't latch the DS of the hood. <_<

Delrin Subframe Bushings

I need some solid subframe bushings. Before I buy new, does anyone have some sitting around?

How To: Adding A Power Passenger Seat

11 May 2013 - 09:53 PM

Here it is. How to add a power passenger seat to a car that did not come equipped with a power passenger seat OR IS NOT PRE-WIRED FOR A POWER PASSENGER SEAT. First off, if you've already tried this and it didn't work, it's because the passenger seat is not wired like the driver seat is. The driver seat as a constant 12V going to it. That's why you can adjust it before you get in and start the car, the passenger seat does not. The passenger seat is a switched 12V source. Once the key is in and in and power is turned on, you can then use the power passenger seat.

So the plug for the seat has three pins: Constant 12V, switched 12V, and ground.

You can do this one of two ways. Do it like it came from the factory switched, or make it constant. I made it constant for the ease of it. Find a constant 12V source. I used my subwoofer cable because it ran right past the seat

You will use this for both the switch and the constant power. Obviously it would be easiest to get a pigtail from a car that has a power seat and splice into that, but it's just as easy to use spades. So, make a harness for the constant and power:

Connect that to the power source and then plug it into the orange and red spades on the plug

Then run a ground. I just grounded it out at one of the bolts for the seat

And done. You now have a power passenger seat that the passenger can adjust before getting in the car

Those With "modded" Cars: Attention Whore Or Roll Through Quietly?

08 May 2013 - 10:27 PM

Now that it's nice out and cars are coming back out and motorcycles on the streets again, what kind of driver are you? Just today on campus there have been multiple Mitsus who feel the need to drive only in first gear so their BOV can go off every few feet and motorcycles sitting at stop lights doing burn outs and then bouncing off the rev limiter going down the street.

So what kind of driver are you for those with "modded" cars? Do you roll through heavily populated places, do you try to remain inconspicuous? Or do you  scream for attention in any way you can?

Personally, I do what I can to not draw any attention to myself when I drive through the city. Which is in part why I went to completely factory everything on the exterior besides the wheels. Keep the shifts real low, don't speed, don't rev, barely go into boost if at all, etc. I try to stear of automotive fan boys with their screeching four cylinders in fear that someone will think I'm friends with that person.
