#2226940 2000 V70R Speaker Replacement

Posted by Tyler T5R on 19 April 2013 - 02:45 AM

I'm having a hard time sorting through how to wire up the 8 speakers (not counting the center dash) to an aftermarket amp.

Do  you folks just wire up the rear doors and leave the D-pillar speakers in place?

Do  you leave the dash tweets in place and wire up the front doors?

Lastly, if  you buy coaxes for the doors, that's too much high frequency, how do you deal with that?

(phew, sorry for that but I had to ask someone, it's driving me nuts)

The hard part is the door speakers. In other cars, I ran dedicated speaker wires from the aftermarket amp (in trunk) into the doors all the way to the door speakers (leaving the factory speaker wires unused and unmodified). In the 850 and x70 cars, this is difficult because of the way all the wires run to the doors through a special connector (like a Molex XRC Molex%20XRC.JPG).

In my 850 I gave up on trying to run my own speaker wires to the doors. On my V70, I plan to connect my aftermarket amps back into the factory speaker wires in between the head unit and the wiring harness connector. This way I'll be using the factory speaker wires to get to the speakers, but the factory wires will be unmodified. PM me if you need clarification.

Also, if you put coaxes in the doors and want to not use the tweeters in the dash or the D-pillars, it's easy to disconnect the tweeters.

"I put my GPS antenna at the base of the dash by the windshield.  It is a short, easy cable run and the GPS gets a very good signal at all times."

Me, too. It works perfectly for GPS. Sirius not so great but I think that's true no matter where the antenna is.

Finally lowered it. The front springs and the new 'euro' nivomats are probably still settling a little.

Thanks to Honeyman for procuring spacers for the rear foolers.

I fixed the awd last year, so this is my first test with awd and snow tires. Works great!

The last Dynaudio V70 kit in North America. My wife wins (and she had help from my in-laws)! I hadn't even asked for it (recently).

#2176384 16T Turbo Angled Flange, P2 But Will Work On 850/x70 - $140 + Actual Shi...

Posted by Tyler T5R on 11 November 2012 - 01:43 PM

Whats the condition / mileage / etc. on the turbo?  Also, can you give me the part number(s).  Would you recommend a rebuild, either for the wastegate or cartridge itself before install?

I'm in a bit of a tight spot currently - I pulled the turbo on my '01 V70 t5 and brought it to a local turbo rebuild shop in Denver.  A couple weeks later and the guy has essentially fallen off the face of the earth (with both my money and my turbo).  In the mean time, I need to get the car running, which means I need to source a complete turbo...  Since I'm getting desperate, I'm debating whether to just bite the bullet and buy a brand new / remanned one.  If I were to buy this one you have, I'd need you to get it shipped overnight delivery.  And also I'd ask you to be totally honest on what service it needs so that I can get parts ordered immediately.

Thanks.

PS. If anyone knows where to quickly get a good quality new or remanned one for a fair price, please let me know!

The seller, Jeff, is a great guy and you can trust that he will be totally honest with you.

#2171573 Replacements For General Exclaim Tires

They're nice, but damn are they soft. Trying to zip through traffic feels like navigating a water bed.

Agreed. The conti dws do not handle great

Neubar, the way you like to drive I would stick with summer tires. All seasons won't give you the handling you want.

Hope my car is running by then. Anyone want to help replace inner timing cover?

Never mind. Got it done. Feeling like the best mechanic ever, in a sad kinda way :)

#2166997 What Is This Plastic Piece?

Posted by Tyler T5R on 17 October 2012 - 12:32 AM

I'm working on my timing belt job on my 1998 V70R and found this on the ground directly below the front of the engine. What is it? It's a hollow plastic peg about 1.5" long and 3/8" diameter that appears to have broken off from somewhere.

With AWD plus a good set of snow tires you could literally go almost anywhere :D I recommend General Altimax Artic, have a set and love them...

Same ones I have. They are great

I've had to use a 3/4 breaker bar with a 4-5' pipe slipped over it for added leverage and had to jump on it to get some really sticky axle nuts free. Probably not the best or safest method.. but it has worked for me.

I tried all that. Tried my impact wrench. No luck on both cars. I've learned to pb blast it for a couple days, and then drive it to a friend's shop where they have real (snap on etc) impact tools. They break it loose for me, then I tighten it back up and go home to do the repair.

Don't you guys in the Virginias say warshed?   :P   Nice waggy.  Such a typical question, but are you going to attempt the XC grill swap?

Maybe. I like xc grilles, my wife doesn't. I might black out the center of mine. But I really like the shiny Volvo grill. To me it's quintessential Volvo.
