Get a warrenty
Basic warrAnty will set you back $1500 and only cover you for 12 months, 10k miles. Add about a grand for each additional year you want coverage for. Keep in mind most used car warranties also require you to pay a deductible, typically $100.
Take that $1500-3500 and put it into savings. Earn interest on the monies and use if and when needed.
-OR-
Do not purchase a car you do not fully understand. If you rely on a warranty for repairs you will be disappointed when the not so nice warranty company denies your claim. An SR is no more complex then a Honda Civic if you understand the principle behind its design.

I'm on several forums and help people all the time with Auto Total Loss questions. It sucks to deal with Insurance carriers who think of you as a cost and want to minimize it accordingly. Some companies are better than others but most do not play nice.
Edit: Forgot to add; I do not do this for profit and I never ask for anything in return. I consider it payback for all the BS the carriers make me sift through.

Well time to triple our debt and be fucked by four more years of this POS.
Let me just leave this here...

Some lawmakers, pundits, and others continue to say that President George W. Bush’s policies did not drive the projected federal deficits of the coming decade — that, instead, it was the policies of President Obama and Congress in 2009 and 2010. But, the fact remains: the economic downturn, President Bush’s tax cuts and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq explain virtually the entire deficit over the next ten years (see Figure 1).
