  1. Just came back from visiting her at the hospital. She's in pain, she'll be all right but I'm sure it doesn't feel that way to her right now. Sucks, she is like a unicorn: a girl who raced crits, could drink beer with the team and shoot the s.... with us, could handle her own on a MTB, etc... One bad jump and it all went south, but I think she'll bounce back. It took me 2 years to get my confidence back, I don't know how long it took ScumCity Mike after he broker his hip, but bad wrecks mess with your hand and not just your body.
  2. Soooo, on topic: friend broke her neck on her MTB last night. Hit a jump just so and kicked up the back wheel, landed square on top of her head. Smashed helmet, concussion, cracked and compressed vertebrae. I had a similar injury 15 yrs ago, she's going to be laid up for a few weeks. Sad thing is: she was riding MTb because she wanted a good work out and didn't want to ride her road bike at 7 pm on public roads. She broke her had 18 months ago in a race and wanted to be careful since her job requires her to be very active physically.
  3. I didn't realize he'd broken his foot until the end. Talk about dedication, never slowed down b/c of it.
  4. I'll hit the shop once the owner is back from Interbike in Vegas. He's the one who refused to rebuild the rear wheel on the grounds that it would be more than the cost of the wheel. Sounds like he's got a few ideas for me. I love Enve's stuff, it's pure eye candy but that's silly money. If I'm going to spend that much, I would rather get another set of Mavics and get 15K miles out of them. I already have 10K+ miles on my current ones, so I'll need to find something by Christmas.
  5. Changed cleats on my Speedplays, wow, why did I wait so long! Blew out my fancy fake Easton, rear wheel started eating spokes and fixing it would cost more than the wheel itself. Lesson learned, cheap Ebay junk is just that..... Reminder pic:
  6. No, just no. I know the R12 was a great car in its day (my parents had a station wagon) but come on.... Better French car:
  7. I love the old lady getting ready to walk her groceries across the course. Gotta love crit racing in urban settings....
  8. Land Rover Series 3, Lightweight. Tires are just fine, thankyouverymuch. Had someone come look at it last week and made a GoPro video of it for another person. Fun little vehicle, but not as popular as the Defenders, etc....
  9. Painted the youngest' balance pink bike Chrysler red. I sense a theme in this house.....
  10. Meh.... You get used to dealing with it. One of the guys on the team (the crowd I usually hit the bar with) can put them down. A few of us can't keep up and don't try. We just joke about it.
  11. I hear you. I'm cutting back more and more. I like a good solid buzz when I drink (I have been drunk once in the past 4 years ?), but I sleep like crap afterwards. I'm close to only drinking when I meet up with friends at a local bar 2-3 times a month. Limits me to 2 beers since I have to drive home.
  12. It'll say a lot about his ability to plan ahead. Massive refunds are just signs that you didn't plan properly or opted to give the government an interest free loan over a year. For once, I think the genius did the right thing, assuming he has enough foresight to set a little aside every month.
