  1. It's the weird angle of the picture, there;s quite a bit of clearance all around. I was actually thinking or re-routing my water hoses to the front of the engine but the heat shield will keep them safe as-is. I started the car, it came out of the garage under its own power and a 2 month old SS fuel line blew out. Sprayed fuel all over the engine from the warm up regulator. I'm ordering a new line along with new crush washers (super specific size to fit a recessed circle on the warm up regulator) and will continue to work on the interior and carpet in the meantime. Bummer. If I get too impatient, I'll run a manual fuel pressure regulator and leave the pressure at 3.4 bars at all times. Start up pressure is usually closer to 1.7-2 bars. It'll hate me as it starts but it will make life much easier and cheaper.
  2. Frank the Tank! I like that he never lived in the ornate digs provided to him by the church, and that he's a Jesuit.
  3. Thanks. I can't wait for the salt to be washed off the roads so I can go drive it. Clutch feels good, it disengaged well yesterday when I cranked it. Hand brake is tight now and should be able to lock up the rear wheels if needed. This thing is looking more and more like the car it once was.
  4. Fired it up last night for a few seconds (to check for obvious leaks). CIS K-Jet is a nightmare but oh well.... Had two small leaks I fixed. Bled the clutch and the brakes using the Motive Power Bleeder. Turns out a Volvo master cylinder cap fits the Renault reservoir. Untitled by Exim-Cars, on Flickr One line is clogged (passenger front). Aluminum line between the MC and the flex line to the caliper is probably clogged, it's common once they sit for a while. Looks like I'll be make a new lines today. Re-installed the exhaust after cleaning the oil out of it, the turbo, primed everything, etc... Got the wheels back on the ground after re-threading an axle for the nut (long story....) Rear section of body goes on today, new throttle cable, new shifter linkage and then hopefully a few easy miles around the neighborhood. Untitled by Exim-Cars, on Flickr Starter heat shield is off for now, it will go back on ASAP.
  5. You have the worst luck. What happened ?
  6. Ran over someone's bike yesterday in the last corner of a crit. Guy wiped out in a tight corner, his bike kicked into my path. Not pleasant to hear and feel his bike crack as I rode over the rear triangle.
  7. Greg: yes, and it turned over well friday when I primed the turbo and checked a few things. Found the valve cover bolts loose so I was starting to see some oil seep just above the exhaust manifold. Good thing I check and double check everything. I'll need to adjust the timing since the flywheel moved when I torqued down the clutch. Hussein: I use the MR from Renault (manuel de réparation), it's what a Renault tech would have used to maintain the car. All torque settings, part numbers and problem shooting come from that binder, it's pretty handy. Next owner (which hopefully won't have the car too soon) will also have a detailed list of items replaced on the car, with invoices. Then there will be the spare part pile, since the car came with used spares as well. Logan: my shop is still my garage. The shop is Andrew's Dad, he retired and I work on some of my stuff there. But come by anytime, I should be home most of the time through the end of May.
  8. Lucas, definitely let me know. It'll start today and I should have it on the road, driving within a week. I need to finish up a few things with wheels, etc...
  9. Lucas! How's Texas ? Are you coming through anytime soon ? FJ will be for sale soon. It's a cool truck but it's as raw as they get and not very practical for what I need.
  10. I really do suck at updates. Clutch was done on the car, the old throw out bearing was shot too but thankfully I had sourced another one. Engine and transmission are back in the car, I gave the car an IV of Royal Purple gear oil earlier this week: Untitled by Exim-Cars, on Flickr Sorry about the crappy filter on the picture, error when uploading to Flickr. Untitled by Exim-Cars, on Flickr It's been slow going partly because of other projects like this beast: Untitled by Exim-Cars, on Flickr But mostly because getting any fitting, any filter or part for this car usually involves a few solid hours or research unless I want to pay a premium for French parts from France. Decided to keep the current filter location (underneath the intercooler, and just behind the alternator) but I have everything to relocate it in a few weeks. Untitled by Exim-Cars, on Flickr Using steel braided hoses whenever possible, this stuff needs to hold up.
  11. Impressive work Johann. Will you sell any of the items you're making ? Or will they be made strictly for personal use ? How lax are the laws in NL for aftermarket parts ?
  12. Pic post fail Pat. Edit: seeing the Youtube link now. WTF..... ?!
  13. You know you laughed. Erik, the other one upper. Doesn't happen often!
  14. As is my V70R. (2004). Wasssssuuuuup ?
  15. Race from a "local" team in early April. Just got the flyer. Awesome sauce.
  16. Cal him out about being on FB while driving. Please ?
  17. Wouldn't be a bad way to go. Go out with a bang.
  18. I agree with Alain, it boils down to what cultures tolerate. I live in the middle of horse racing country. I'd get shot if I suggested eating horse to friends here. But when I lived in France as a kid, we had a neighbor who ate horse over cow.
  19. Nope, her nose kills it for me. I hate a big nose on a chick.
  20. 50 VS users just read the caption and answered: "nope, just a massive boner."
