  1. no P&P work at this time, but i'm probably going to buy another head and work it myself. I'm having the rotating assy balanced, cylinders honed, deck trued, valve job, etc. I should everything back together next weekend provided the machine shop comes through.
  2. Depends on what can be done about the cylinders. It's going to be damn near impossible to hone them out to D spec tolerances so I'll probably be buying OS1 pistons.
  3. took my parts to the machinist today, found out he couldn't touch them for a month after discussing everything w/ him.. So, found another shop that could do it in a week, dropping the parts off to them tomorrow. Hope to have the car back together soon! :)
  4.    GOD NO!!! :monkey:
  5. depends on the damage. As for the missing piston.. duh. These are all before pics. Tore the block down this weekend, parts go to the machinest this week, still waiting on valve seals though. this is the number two rod journal on the crank, #2 rod was the bent one.. No visable damage.
  6. It should, cause it's mind boggling not bottling! :P
  7. Really, I'm very active on VW forums and I see them do it all the time.. On another note, tunes are much cheaper for those cars than they are for any volvo. Also, how do you bottle your mind? One other note, peopel have discovered the limitations of the honda and vw engines long ago, the volvo scene is just now catching up. i should say FWD volvo scene, the RWD volvo scene got all their info in the womb! HIOOO!
  8. lack of tune and low fuel grade were the biggest factors I think. I was rotating octanes since I drive so much. You order rods yet? ;)
  9. more pics.. You can see here where the rod hit the crank. bearings side by side, the discolored bearing came off the rod cap.
  10. round, silver, has some oil on it. I'll take a pic later today Talked to a machine shop today and learned that detonation can't bend a rod and that the gouge in the crank is a non issue and to just sand it down.
  11. Thanks for the tip. I've never used a camera before.... Anyway, as for the crank, damage isn't bad at all, so I'm going to have it rebalanced. No..
  12. .030" feeler gage one side of piston, can't fit a .010" feeler on the other side...
  13. I only drove it to the car wash and back after it started knocking, it never got any quieter..
  14. Still not sure what happened. had an over boost situation w/ fuel cut etc, a few days before this happened, on the way home from work car never saw anything over 14psi. It was knocking when I got out to get the mail. Only thing I can think of is I was in 5th gear at a low RPM going up a hill w/ boost rising. Car slightly stumbled, so I'm thinking it happened then. My AFRs were all fairly rich, around 11:1-12:1. It was also VERY cold that day, about 12*F.
  15. I drive 100 miles a day, so I try to run it out to about 5-6k miles between changes. If I change my oil every 3k miles, I'll be changing it like every month. I had about 5k on this.
