Abs Module Replacement

08/06/07 ABS Module removal.

I removed the memory module. It took about an hour to locate and remove the ABS module. Pretty tight fit under the brake booster. I found some great instructions for the removal process from http://www.modulemaster.com/volvoabsremoval.html.

I am sending this abs module in for a rebuild. This appears to be a cost effective alternative to having the dealer do the repair. I didn't actually go to the dealer for an estimate but I have heard from reliable sources that the repair would be at in the $500-600 range. The rebuild will cost less than $140.00.

I am not a mechanic but rather a self proclaimed "tinkerer" and this is in my scope of repair projects. Simple removal and replacement of the defective part. It does require a small 1/4" drive E-5 torx socket wrench. I used a 5/32" - 6 sided socket being extremely careful not to strip the head of the bolts. Pretty tight area to work in. I pulled the fuse box out of the way to get easier access. I will probably remove the air intake box when reinstalling the rebuilt module.

The rebuilt module arrived well packaged from Module Master. I removed the plastic bags that I used to cover the electrical connectors and then started the re install. It's important to not be rushed but rather take a leisurely pace to get all of the connections and screws tightened down. It's a tight fit and you have to be a bit flexible. After the reinstall remember to put the fuse back in the fusebox and fire up the motor. The ABS light is off!! :) Good repair. Simple remove and replace. I recommend Module Master for their good work!
