  1. VA tech was a bigger blood bath and 2 months later no one cared. Its harsh but the numbers are too low.

Yes, but Virginia Tech didn't involve 6-year-olds.

Also, it was his mother's gun.

    Ok how about this one.

Each and every gun owner must carry LIABILITY INS on themselves and all residents in the home.

You would still be allowed to have every conceivable weapon, just have liability ins.

That'll surely bring those kids back. Liability is hardly what matters here.

  2. I need more guns.

See, that's just it. None of you need guns by my standard, but I have no problem with any of you having them because you aren't going to go shoot up a school full of 6-year-old children or a shopping mall. Most of the people who I don't want to have guns won't abide by the gun control laws anyway, so I don't want to take your guns away on that account. However, if Adam Lanza's mom hadn't owned two handguns, an assault rifle, and a shotgun, would it have saved a child's life? Would it have reduced the damage he was able to do? If so, I have no problem with anyone taking away all of your guns so it doesn't happen again. I'm sure you have a problem with it, and you should, but is it even relevant? Adam Lanza's mommy's weapons may have been grandfathered in (don't know, don't care), and then he still could have done the same amount of damage.

Unless you can actually get rid of all of the guns (all of them), I don't think you'll make a significant difference. Thus, gun control is an idealistic concept we all cling to in the hope of saving lives and avoiding ever again having to feel the gut-wrenching sorrow we all feel at the loss of these children. But it doesn't mean it's not an important topic, and it doesn't mean that we shouldn't at least consider every option we can and continue to try to make things better. It also doesn't mean we should give up our freedoms for some idealistic hope.

  3. Sticker on the Fully loaded T6 I drove was $59,185. City Safety, rear dvd's, backup cameras, etc.

    Way too much IMO

Too much on the sticker for many people who would like one, but it's competitive with a fully loaded Audi Q5, which is their target competition. Remember that price tag includes a bit more gimmicky stuff than the Audi, though I think the Audi's still a better choice unless you have a strong affinity for Volvo as many of us do. Also, my Volvo dealer is a lot more willing to budge on price than my Audi dealer is (as long as its not built to order), and a comparably equipped Volvo tends to be considerably cheaper after negotiations and loyalty discounts.

Regardless, the pictures I've seen of the R-design package don't impress me enough, and I don't really plan on driving any XC60 I buy like a sports car anyway. I'd prefer comfortable and relaxed handling for this vehicle, not something rigid and sporty.

  4. This reminds me of the town mom who has nothing better to do than read too far into everything done in her kids school.

Teacher: OK, class. Today we are splitting into three groups. Group 1 will be billy, steven, and thomas. Group 2 will be...

Mom: OMFG WTF my kid is in group 2? ARE YOU SAYING HE'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR GROUP 1?

Teacher: Um... no, they are just random groups based on what row the child is sitting in.

Mom: Then why didn't you just name them red group, blue group, green group?

Seriously, that's what you guys sound like. I'll leave it at that.

  5. I like how CNN put emphasis on "semi-automatic" as-if it's something out of the ordinary.

It does seem like they are putting a spin on it 'all guns are bad' type of mentality.

and i was getting the vibe that because a gun was involved, the owner was the bad guy

If they were trying to spin it, they would have added commentary about how the number of shots fired could indicate that the shooter intended to kill his target, or something else to that effect. Also, listen to the terms used to refer to the pizza guy and the robbers, which clearly implicate the robbers as the bad guys.

CNN is reporting the facts and focusing on the effect the shooting has had on the community. This is the most important aspect of the story, and also the part of the story which is most likely to affect their viewers. Think back to when you were a little kid. If you looked out the window and saw the pizza guy shoot and kill someone, how would that have affected you? The fact that the pizza guy is the good guy is irrelevant in this story. What's important is the effect the violence has on the community. If you don't get it, go read through some psych journals. Look for articles about trauma and the effect violence has on children who witness it.

    Moving to political.
