  1. I guess it's important to note she has a point if she focuses on the wastefulness. CRTs are worse for the environment, but if you have a good working one with no issues and you throw it in the garbage to get a pretty new LCD, the environmental cost of the new materials for the LCD and the amount of toxins in the CRT which are released into the landfill could in theory *maybe* outweigh the benefits of lower power consumption?

  2. I'd like to show her how much power the CRT consumes versus an LCD, and tell her that she is in effect polluting the environment with excessive electricity usage. Some-odd 20-30W for a LCD versus 150W+ for a CRT of similar size.

Not to mention CRTs contain considerably more mercury and also contain lead and barium which aren't present in an LCD.

They're also flicker free, which is probably good for your eyes.

    This reminds me of Blackle.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're using an LCD you don't save any power using this site. The back light is still on behind the black.

375,830.857 Watt hours saved my ass.

  3. It seems a little extreme, and I might not have tazered the guy at that point - but he was being uncooperative. While it was just a speeding ticket, when you refuse to sign it you will be arrested. When he refuses to listen to the officer and starts walking towards the car and puts his hand in his pockets, he's borderline headed towards resisting arrest in the mind of a young cop who isn't going to take a chance that he's going to get hurt while writing a routine traffic ticket. Basically, the cop decided to not take *any* chances. He got tazed. He'll get over it.

If the cop was just doing what he felt he needed to in order to remain safe, he was within his rights.

  4. Will Aston Martin be sold - maybe not today or tomorrow, but ford has been posting such great losses... I suspect AM will be sold sometime in the very near future, even if the current bids aren't enough to make it happen.

As for Ford selling Volvo - Volvo is a great asset to ford. Not because of profitability so much, but more because of the R&D and technology that Volvo has made available to ford. Look at how many of Ford's cars that are on the market today are based upon the P1 or P2 platform and how they are rated within their class compared to their predecessors. Ford should not sell Volvo, but Ford should consider pushing Volvo's quality back up to what it used to be, or perhaps even higher. We'll have to wait and see how the new generation S80 and V70 models hold up to see if this is going to happen or not.

  5. I can do wiki. Our employee manual at work is PHP/HTML enhanced wiki. <_< I hate programming that but for Volvospeed I wouldn't mind.

Oh, are you talking about a Volvospeed Wiki or a Volvospeed entry in Wikipedia?
