Yes the descending tool kit for smoothing the casting surface. I have carbide burrs, dremel bits, and paper, just want to see a kit from someone who has labored this job efficiently. I'm going to do one this winter-Thanks
This is the mess
getting there - still have a little cleanup inside - follow the casting lines
spent some more time on the outside. Not sure why I'm bothering - 99% is not visible. Trouble is, once I start, it's hard to stop

Let's see the tool kit all in one place please. Thanks
Not sure what you mean - what I'm using to clean it up?
I can take a pic later. Basically it's carbide burr tools, than dremel sanding drums then different grades of sandpaper then wet&dry sandpaper, then steel / copper wool, then rubbing compound with a dremel wheel, then by hand

Still more work on the lower runner - pretty much just clean up after this round
cleaning up the top side
standard rough cast

What it shows is basically all there is to it.
Here you can see small channels leading from the cavities between the ports to the ports.
Then there is the manifold gasket with sort of flapper doors in front of the cavities.
When you look at the manifold there is a chambers surrounding the runners also with openings at the same spot as the cavities. The chamber is also connected to the crank ventilation system.
When there is vacuum in the runner the flapper door in the gasket can open. When there is boost it will be pushed against the manifold effectively closing the opening.
Thanks for the explanation Johann. I have a gasket on order, but I've never seen one - so couldn't understand how the ports in the lower runner function. Been cleaning up the casting in a spare runner.

More work done on the lower intake. Cleaning up the outer rough casting as well. Always better to be prepared...

Trying to find pics of where you took your C30 motor apart - do you know roughly the page range that would fall into? Looking for more detail pics of the RNC block & head - I didn't realize how different the breather system is integrated with the lower runners, etc. Just looking for more pics to get a clearer sense of it.
EDIT - found this on TB
http://turbobricks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=188858&page=6
- which is probably the gist of what I recall you posting, however I thought you had some pics that showed more detail?

Try and source rods with 21mm small end bore - if no choice but 23mm - get new bushings made for 21mm. You don't want to get Wisecos like mine with the 23mm bore& compromised ring land. Extra wrist pin weight is substantial.

Looks killer man. Seeing this makes me wish I went this direction rather than the XC90 mainly because I'm bored, but the extra room and V8 are nice.
And yeah, makes sense why its so rust free coming from PA. The weather may be similar but they don't put a drop of salt on the roads.
Thanks. Didn't know that about PA. Makes sense, though - on how clean the car is.
Started work on cleaning & mild porting of a lower intake manifold. Since the Elevate has larger ports, figured I might as well take advantage....
Learn new shit all the time - I didn't know the RNC breather system included venting the head into and out the manifold (square ports & holes directly above).... Cool stuff
-
Tweaked the Elevate filter elbow bracket for better alignment with the MAF/Snabb intake pipe
-
Note: Had to add a 10mm spacer sleeve to the cable adjuster inside - as it was, the adjuster was completely backed out & the eBrake had to be pulled as high as it could go to get any real effect. With the sleeve, the lever position is back to stock, and adjuster barrel is about halfway

Thank you.
She's gone now

A while back I blew up an axle doing donuts and replaced it with an aftermarket axle from FCP.
The inner boot on that axle ripped, and me ignoring it killed the inner CV joint. So I bought the replacement axle from Advance Auto Parts - it's a new axle, not reman'd; since I got it for $60, I figured I'd give it a shot and see how the quality is.
I just put one of those (From Advance Auto) in my Mom's S70 AWD last week :) Look pretty solid. The outer shaft is thicker than the auto Volvo version.

after driving my wife's C30 for a few days, I don't think I will be buying another P80 for a long time
Indeed. It is a nimble car. The significant weight reduction makes it fun even with stock(ish) power levels. It feels pretty darn good with the Elevate 15psi tune. Looking forward to the K16, though.
You should do the WALK mod & a stiffer rear bar - those really make the handling much more fun in maneuvering.
Adding a Parrot MKi9100 for handsfree phone (annoying that it doesn't come with this - even the 2012 Fiat500 has handsfree phone) - gonna put the OLED here

Wow, underside of the car looks extremely clean. Where did you pick the car up again? I know you'd have a tough time finding anything that rust free in your neck of the woods.
Came from PA, about 5 hrs. Similar weather though, so maybe it was garage kept, I dunno. It is very clean overall. Re bled the calipers yesterday & installed the pedal covers

Many, Many thanks to Kissinger on C30Crew for his pics of the CEIKA setup on his C30 - Helped immensely with installing the lever & cable bracket in the correct orientation
brackets & eBrake mechanismHoses they provided were too long, so I used the ones from the V70 (R1405008)
cable & hose routing - I used the little hose support they provide to locate the hose on the outside of the original bracket, and used the original to route the cable without any harsh angle changes

H,
are you going to remove and retint the rear glass. 3pc tint looks hideous.
Also question about the front brakes, are the bleeders supposed to be on the bottom or the top?
Yeah, I don't like that. Good catch. Will need redoing. Why the heck would someone do that in the first place???
The bleeder nipples face up - the pic with them down is the rear caliper - I have to switch balance tubes & bleeders with the rear mount location on the C30

Wait a sec.. bolts-on mods don't count..?!
It's just not the same as building a P80 - where you are making stuff work that was never intended for that model. The C30 has much more readily available to it.
I guess what I mean by that is that I'm used to a 'build' meaning a fair amount of thought and design and fabrication or modification has had to be figured out to get from point A to points beyond...

Thanks guys, however it think you will be underwhelmed ;)
no plans to go beyond the K16 on this - so likely only in the 325wheel range, from what I'm seeing.
I can't even really call it a 'build' thread, since everything is bolt on - I haven't had to fabricate a single part myself....
Perhaps in a few years I will change my mind, however, this is my DD and I'm not going to get carried away with it like the XR, really.

Great thread/build so far!!! The real burning question in my mind, have you had the distinct pleasure of changing the pollen filter yet?
I was looking at that - looks like a bit of a PITA - remove gas pedal??
Coming up soon - Snabb Intake pipe for P1's..... (pic from Snabb)
Been driving this the past few days - my wife's 2012 Fiat500
I really like it - the Abarth version is fucking awesome. Honestly, if I hadn't already bought the C30, I think I would have been hard pressed not to buy one - you can get a 2012 / lo mi examples for around 14k

Very cool, Goodluck with this new car hussein. What about the power output with the K04?
At least the car is light. Pretty peppy with the Elevate tune. Hopefully the K16 will be more appropriate

Yes! Makes things much easier - just have to get familiar with the Ford/Mazda interchange ....

This is the C30 I bought to replace the XR back in September. 91K, M66. Had to drive almost 5 hrs out into PA to get it.
Basic handling mods are lowered (Eibach ProSport), stiffer rear sway (CorkSport/ Mazdaspeed3), modified front camber with readily available kit from Whiteline.
Grille was plastic-dipped. Wheels were meant for the XR. Advanti Hybris 18x8, ET45 w/235/40x18 Kumho
Cosmetics - sill decals
R-Design rear spoiler - only available plain so I had to prime / paint / this
CEIKA large six pot 330mm rotors came off the XR
straighten back plates
revised brackets
CEIKA Rears will go on, once I get the modified hardware for the eBrake hydraulics. Have to flip the balance tubes, since the R caliper is now L, and vice-versa
Some broken shit - didn't see it at the used car dealer - they paid for the parts, however.
RedTail SS Exhaust tips intended for the XR
and R Design lower lip
That was going to be about the extent of it, for the time being.
Then... someone on C30Crew stripped all the Elevate goodies off their 2012 to trade it in..... deal was too good to pass up.
Also Porche 70mm throttle body. I had it machined down to better fit the Elevate intake hose
Air filter +piping, Turbo outlet - IC - intake all installed
Changed the hard plastic line to the Elevate MAF-turbo pipe - the stock section was too short & pulls the manifold fitting at an awkward angle (IMO)
added a QR fitting to the plenum for the boost gauge before I installed it..
routed the lines along the firewall, used the SUR&R heat wrap I had bought for the fuel lines on the XR..
Mototec 3" DP (from EuroSportTuning) installed
Currently running the Elevate tune for K04 with all his bolt on mods.
Another C30Crew member makes this shroud to fit a Boost Gauge - using the dual boost from the XR. I'll add an EBP bung to the K16 manifold.
Bung & line are SS
K16 & injectors, tune will go in in the spring.

Hi Hussein,
Sad news for the international VOLVO community!
I wish you good luck in your projects Hussein.Hope to read you on another project who knows ...
Yann
Thank you :)
My C30 won't get modded to the extent of the V70. Perhaps when ME9 tuning is opened down the road.....
My old X1/9 will be getting more attention now :)

I have new eBrake cables & all shoes, hardware removed from my wagon - if you need to change it all :)

Nice work!
I found having dual baffled cans worked the best in order to preserve as much oil returning to the block as possible under high rpm / load situations. Yours is much more compact :) My secondary can was equal to engine displacement = 2.3l
