  1. Sacha's not really taking any new Vanilla orders now so the wait is currently..... forever. He's stated he wants to work down that backlog of Vanilla orders before taking new orders. You can still get yourself a frame/bike out of the shop though in the form of a Speedvagen: http://speedvagen.com/. I've been to their shop and spent a couple hours there with the guys. Sacha, and the handful of other folks that run Vanilla/Speedvagen are great -- really nice, amazing craftsmen, and really passionate about what they do.

They certainly do -- but so does the entire handbuilt custom bike market. Guys like Richard Sachs have 7 year wait lists for $4500 framesets. Same story for dozens of builders around the country.

Did he find his way onto the Volvo forums somewhere yet? I've been lending him some advice here and there for his 142 since he got it but wasn't sure if he'd delved into the online Volvo world yet.

He like bombed me on instagram, that's how I found him.

  2. Plenty of people (including me) believe that it's a smart financial move. But the way so many typical middle class families live, I wonder if they really save any money over a lease. All the money people spent customizing and maintaining their home, plus the time... Landscapers, new brick walls, yard furniture, snow blower, weed whacker, ride-on mower, the cost of owning all these motorized tools, every single thing sold in a Sears etc etc.

Well it is a smart finical move. My mortgage is not much more than what I was paying for a 1 bedroom near the city. I am buying a lot of tools for the house but I will use those tools more than once. I rather put the money and effort into the house rather than a lease.

It i just time consuming and the perfectionist that I am, it gets annoying.

The buying of the tools will taper off as the years go on. The only tools I buy now are to replace tools broken, or tools to make my life easier because I'm too lazy to keep doing it the hard way.

  3. I understand rule of thirds, kinda hard when you want a panorama of a bay or a plate of food. The plane shots I would have, but it was hard enough using a 210 lens without a tripod and catching a plane that was only visible for a few moments. I try to use the rule of thirds when I can, but with those I just couldn't time it based on having grabbed my camera off a table and started shooting, wasn't in the mental state for well composed pics. haha

The rule of thirds can be used in any type of photo. If you can't compose it on thirds while your shooting it, you can change it in post. It's all about composition.

  4. I'm not looking for +1 on my post or anything like that, but an acknowledgment and some kind words would be nice.Thank you for all who have done that. Not trying to be an ass, this is just something that has touched me deep, but it just seemed no one even read what I posted, as the next comment was laughing about blowing a diff.

You're right, I didn't read it, until now. Sad.

  5. That is why you always carry a full size fire extinguisher with you in the car. If you hit it before it really gets going (likely had to wait for the loggers to stop for him) then the fire can usually be contained.

A FULL sized fire extinguisher? Who carries a FULL sized fire extinguisher with them? I carry extinguishers in my older cars, but certainly not full sized extinguishers and have never known anyone who has.
