Is not easy, on a different level I been trough the same problem, engine rebuilt with 15-20k on it let me down two days before Carlisle Show, open up and there was the rod bearing on cyl #2, sound like diesel = piston was hitting the head!

Is worth to drop the pan and check was going on before you give away all the nice work/time/passion on that car!!!Good luck with the Car.
