Monopolies or oligopolies facilitate doing some really greedy stuff, but I wouldn't pin the sole blame on our economic principles. Markets with a high barrier to entry are supposed to be regulated by the SEC, FTC, and FCC, yet they keep approving mergers and allowing them to do things that basically eliminate competition.
