He's a 17 year old kid who got in a fight with another guy. Heated words happen in the midst of misunderstandings, especially when you're a punk kid. There's no indication he was a gang banger (like they're killing off in Chicago), there's no indication he actually intended to kill Zimmerman even if he did declare, "You're going to die...." How often do we declare, "I'm going to kill you!" or other such phrases where the real intent is nowhere near the desire to end someone's life? So no, I don't see it as offing one more low life. And no, I'm not glad it ended the way it played out.

I'm not going to wait to find out if the person who said "you're going to die" while bloodying my dome means it or if he's just kidding.

I wasn't talking about watercooler talk either. I'm talking about formal meetings as well as formal notices. We've had a ton of talk from the Admiral as well as several formal meetings, here at Patuxent River NAS. They've been talking about it for weeks. Again, doesn't mean it's going to happen.

Will it happen? Probably.

At Ft Huachuca there was already a mass meeting about it giving out the info I provided. I imagine it was preemptive however.

As far as I'm aware, govt furloughs are still an IF and not a certainty at this point.

As a current DoD employee, I can tell you (Gideon) that furloughs have not started and are not definite yet. Furthermore, even if they DO start, it's not 20% loss of pay. It's one day a week, for a *potential* 22 weeks. So if (and that's a massive if) we go 22 weeks, then it will be ~20%.

Although, to play devil's advocate....We're talking about $85B here. That's really not that much $$$$. That's only a little bit more than we forked over for Sandy.

I'm right down the road from Greg, and will be feeling the hit as well (~$400 less, after taxes, per paycheck). It's a fairly large hit. I've set up my finances enough that it really doesn't matter (I just lose play money), but for the first time in a couple years, I actually have to pay close attention to where my money is going. Definitely going to be interesting to watch everyone trip out....

Oh, and Greg - they've started layoffs there? Damn son. We're actually SWAMPED with work, with the new requirements and justifications. So basically....workload goes up, pay and hours go down.
