  1. So I'm a little excited.. I found a 1998 (build date 01/1997 though) V70 with a manual in the junk yard the other day.. I am waiting on them to call me back with a quote for all of the manual stuff.

I was reading through the manual swap thread, but I had a couple quick questions..

-Since the V70 at the junk yard is a 1998 and my C70HT is a 1998, everything should be perfectly compatible, right? (The junk car is turbo, guessing lpt?).

-Aside from the hydraulic stuff and clutch, I should be able to get everything I need from the car, right?

-Do I need the manual computer for a 1998 swap? What about the different throttle cable I saw mentioned, Necessary?

Thanks in advance for any info you can give. I am confident, but want to make sure I don't have any unexpected surprises.

    I am planning on grabbing:

    -Transmission

    -Flywheel/clutch/etc..

-Shifter box and cables to trans

    -Brake/clutch pedal setup

    -Manual ECU?

    -Throttle cable?

    -What else?

  2. Sad news.. I was topping off the washer fluid last night and noticed that the coolant was a little low and looked like a milk shake. :(

I suspect that the head gasket is starting to go, but the oil still looks fine.. I'll drain it in the next few days and see what it looks like. Probably do a compression check also and see what I come up with. I'm thankful that I caught it before it got too bad.

The other thing that I am suspect of is that the car still has the original radiator at 160k mi... But the transmission fluid looks fine too.. Idk.

Either way, we are not driving it any more this year. Probably replace the head gasket, radiator, hoses, turbo, and exhaust next year.

Question, If the car has not overheated, is there still any need for the head to be decked? I would think that just cleaning the surfaces should be plenty. Thoughts?

  3. Minot update.. I spend several hours cleaning/detailing this one yesterday, and now this morning it's raining on it. Typical...

I Finally got the mirrors installed, so they work right now..

All that's left to do before winter is:

    -New all season tires

    -Alignment check

-Do something with the park lock out on the shifter. It sticks sometimes.

This car has been great. Simple, comfy, reliable. Couldn't ask for a better daily.

  4. Over the weekend, we took the 850 on a mini vacation to Brown County State park in Indiana. It was a nice little getaway with a couple of friends. I took lots of pictures, but I'll post the pictures of the car here. If the back seems low, Keep in mind, the trunk was absolutely packed and there were probably people in the back seat , lol.

    Nashville, IN:

Loaded up to head back. Tuckin a little tire.

Overall the car preformed flawlessly. Although it could use new tires.

  5. Over the winter I used Fluid Film on my door locks to keep them from freezing. One spring came around I noticed something interesting. The area on the handle around the door locks looked new, while the rest of the black plastic looked old and chalky. Turns out Fluid Film will actually will soak into the plastic and make it look new again. So on a whim, I wiped down all the plastics with the stuff and I am impressed with the results. I will have to see how long it lasts for, but it might be the best option I have found besides painting the trim..

Anyways, Pictures of it all clean and with like-new plastics.. Just realized you can see the C70 in the reflection, lol.

I also snagged a pair of good side mirrors at the junk yard over the weekend. Mine just kind of flop around.. That's another project for another day though..

This thing needs spacers in the rear and better tires asap..

  6. Drove it to work this morning.

It feels like a brand new car now! Last week I did the following:

    -Meyle HD Lower control arms

-Inner and outer Lemforder tie rod ends

    -Front Struts

-IPD HD upper strut mounts and new bearing plates

-Ceramic pads and new rotors all around

    -Replaced e-brake cables

    -Alignment

    I also installed this:

    Tape players suck.

This thing is rock solid now. Drives great and doesn't wander, literally feels like a new car.

The only things I still want to do before next winter:

    -New all season tires

-Fix the dash squeaks and rattles

    -Paint or dye the trim

    -15mm spacers in the rear.

-"Fluid-Film" the underside and wheel wells.

    -Detail and clean.

This is the most boring thread ever.

  7. Don't have any pictures, but got the pcv hose upgraded to the 5/8 hose, but I am still having smoke from the dipstick after long trips.. Not very much, and there isn't much pressure, but I thought that the 5/8 hose would make it go away.. Any Ideas?

On a slightly different note, that intake looks great and it runs awesome now! I wonder how long my old intake hose had been split..

  8. Got the intake manifold off to upgrade the pcv line to 5/8 heater hose and found that any rubber in the system that was from URO was cracked and broken.. It was only 2 years old.. WTF!?!? It's ok, most of it is going in the trash.. Also found an injector o-ring that was leaking and the intake flex tube was cracked..

    Lots to do...

  9. Brought it home from storage (about 10 min drive). I miss driving this car!

Seeing it's first light since November...

And here it sits at home being prepped for summer:

    IMG_20140311_195949962_zpsskikzpzr.jpg

    Done so far:

    -Plates/tags updated

-All fluids checked, topped off as needed

    -Taillight circuit boards changed

    Still to do before summer:

-Pull intake manifold and upgrade PCV hose per MVS

-Replace worn out steering wheel (have one coming)

    -roll rear fenders slightly

-Maybe screw with trying to fix headlight wipers..

-Maybe add sub and amp I have in the basement... Maybe...
