  1. The other day I finally got around to installing my new Pro-Parts splash shield. This is the one that goes behind the bumper under the radiator and whatnot. I couldn't justify paying for an OEM one and while the Pro-Parts piece seems to be just as sturdy as the original, I decided to "parking-stop-proof" it anyways. This is simple, costs less than $10 and has been successful for me on several other P80s.

Just need some wire strapping (The locals here call it plumbers tape) and a handful of hardware. Pictures do the explaining.

    And on the car:

  2. Had that thread bookmarked for a while now and have read through it several times! I think I have my head wrapped around what parts are needed (most of them at least). I do wish the pictures still worked though. I'll do a thorough write-up with lots of pictures when I get around to doing mine.

  3. It has been in the 60s the last couple of days, so I swapped the correct bumper back onto the car. I'm glad I took the R bumper off during winter because I'm sure it would have gotten destroyed. (Yes, I know I still need a center grille)

This is the summer where I plan to refresh the whole rear subframe including all joints, bushings, Nivos, driveshaft etc. Might even find a low mileage diff or possibly rebuild mine. At the very least it'll get resealed. Also going to be doing the fuel pump and sending unit, and possibly adding access doors to be able to access them in the future if needed. Lastly, if all goes well, I'll also be doing the IPD sway bars front and back, lowering springs in the front, drop bolts in the rear, and some nicer wheels of some sort..  Maybe a Stereo System.. Idk.. All of the stuff that I've been neglecting. Wish me luck.

  4. In an attempt to "winterize" this car.. I didn't want to risk the R bumper getting damaged by ice, so I swapped it with this somewhat rough C70 bumper that was left over from the parts car. It's kind of ugly on the wagon, but I'm thinking about fabbing up some sort of light bar for it and maybe a big aluminum skid plate. Not sure if I will get all of that done before the snow falls though..

  5. I've had these roofrack crossbars for a while now and finally got around to installing them (mostly to make space in the shop for other messes). I am a little sad to find out that whoever used these before me had over-tightened the clamp bolts and actually fractured the lower clamps slightly 3 out of 4 of them. Right now I am a little reluctant to actually strap any sort of load to these because they aren't clamping tight like they should be, but as of late last night, they are at least on the car..

  6. On Sunday, Me, the wife, the 1.5 year old, and 2 doggos loaded the VR up and went hiking at Potato Creek State Park near South Bend. The weather was actually decent and we had a good time. Also took advantage of the fall colors. Saffrons look so good in the fall!

  7. I was able to get the "F" shaped vacuum fitting from under the dash just in cast I need that.. The brake pedal sensor looks to be about the same as the automatic version, the only thing i'm not 100% on are the 2 wires that come off the clutch pedal sensor.. Maybe those are just for the starter safety where you have to push the clutch in to start the car?

  8. Here is what I grabbed for the pedals:

I believe that this is the complete assembly. I got both side brackets as well and the sensors that go in each of those brackets. The only thing I will need to figure out is the vacuum line, but I'm pretty sure that I can just tee the vacuum line from the clutch switch into the brake switch vac line.

  9. I finally got around to messing with the parts car 1998 C70 that's been taking up driveway space for almost a year.. I need to get this car stripped down and gone before winter.

I've got most of the odds and ends that I think might be useful to me at some point, but I want to verify that I've got everything for the manual swap before I send it to the crusher. I've read through the parts bible and a couple other threads and I think I've got it all. I'm hoping that since I'm swapping a 1998 C70 with all the parts from a 1998 C70 Manual donor that the swap should be relatively painless.

    What I have removed:

-Engine/transmission combo. This still includes the clutch parts and flywheel as I haven't separated the engine/trans yet. Most of it's going to be replaced, but I want to have all original pieces to match up/compare.  (Engine has broken timing belt, but should be rebuildable should the need arise)

-Shifter housing/assembly with both cables, knob, and leather boot. This assembly feels sloppy. I'll need to research rebuilding it with new bushings and parts. Also need to find solid bushings for the cables

-clutch/brake pedal assembly with related bracketry. I might have grabbed too much, but that's better than not having enough of the pieces

-I ended up having to cut the hydraulic line as it was corroded and wouldn't come apart at either end. Also didn't bother removing the master cylinder as it will be replaced with new.

-Throttle body with pulleys and throttle cable (I seem to remember reading that this piece was different in a manual car and should be swapped over. Can't seem to remember or find that info again though)

-ECU from 1998 C70 High pressure turbo/manual parts car. This should be a plug and play in my 1998 High pressure turbo/automatic car once the transmission is swapped right? Is there any other electronic pieces or wiring that I need to take from the parts car?

Is that it? Anything else I should grab for the manual swap?

  10. 500 mile road trim was successful. The only mechanical issue was a CEL for a small evap leak. Tightened the gas cap and cleared and it hasn't come back on yet. I'll replace it soon though just to be safe.

I while on the road, I picked up a set of good condition (read: not bent) 16" Andrasteas with good Cooper all season tires. The meteors that were on the car were not round anymore and the car shook pretty bad at highway speeds. Plus a couple of the tires had bulges, and I kept loosing air pressure around the beads. It wasn't pretty. So while these aren't exactly desirable, they should make great winter wheels. They are solid, shouldn't bend easily, and the small holes should keep snow and ice out of the brakes. I'm going to run the coopers until the end of the summer, then I'll pick up a set of proper snow tires for these wheels, and probably paint them gunmetal or something.  I'll be searching for something tasteful in 17" come next spring.. Maybe Pegs, Comets, something else? Idk. Honestly, I would love to take the comets from the C70 and put them on the wagon, then pick up some 18" Odysseus for the coupe.. We'll see.

Picture right after installing. Don't mind my brother being... Well... Yeah...

I can't describe how nice it feels to have round wheels that don't shake anymore!

Edit: Better picture from this morning:

  11. Checked it again, cold, parked in the same spot, and the level was right back up where it should be.. Maybe I'm just overthinking it all. Idk.

On a different note, FCP has their silicone intercooler hose set on clearance so I ordered 2 sets. One for each car.
