  1. - Will you please remove your Bush-bashing bilnders for just a moment and listen to your own words. The War on Terrorism is much more important than petty party politics. - You were probably one of those folks predicting we'd catch Osama Bin Ladin just before the '04 GW election too. Gimmie a freakin' break (how do you explain the '93 WTC attack during the Clinton years?). Over one million US troops have deployed to/from Afghanistan and Iraq hunting down religious extremists that for decades have been so determined to kill anyone that doesn't worship in their way that they'll take out innocent civilian women, children, whomever, in a bus, hotel, wedding hall, train, airplance, or business center, in the most haneous ways (i.e. beheadings). They pulled schoolgirls out of a bus and asked who was Shiite and who was Sunni and shot to death those who weren't like them. They've conducted suicide attacks in the US, in Europe, in Asia and even inside Arab nations such as Saudi, Jordan, Egypt, etc. Regardless of rep or dem in the White House, regardless of whether we sit back and take or whether we take it to their backyard, they have proven to be ruthless attackers that don't have a conscience and can't be reasoned with (only understand violence). - If Iraq has to be the lightning rod to attract all the anti-American terrorists then so be it. We can give those terrorists the opportunity they so desire to die for their cause because they have proven they cannot be reasoned with. We took it and took it and took it, decade after decade after decade. My, how easily many people seem to have forgotten: - 2001 9/11 with the image of the innocent thousands of lives lost with the WTC and the Pentagon burning at the same time on your TV screen, the brave passengers of Flight 93 that went down in that Pennsylvania field who made famous "Let's Roll". - 2005 bombings of subway and public buses in England. - 2004 bombing of commuter trains in Madrid, Spain. - 2002 bombing in Bali. - 2000 attack on the USS Cole. - 1999 attempted bombing of LAX. - 1998 Al-Qaeda bombings on US Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. - 1996 bombing attack on Khobar Towers. - 1993 WTC attack with a bomb packed moving van. - 1993 quelled planning attack against NYC tunnels. - 1993 attempt to assassinate President George Herbert Walker Bush. - 1987 North Korean secret agent attack on the KAL Flight killing all aboard with explosives from Iraq. - 1983 attack on the US Marine barracks in Beirut Lebanon. - And these just scratch the surface of the atrocities committed by these terrorist groups. There are many more, and also many cases with yet unexplained circumstances of airliner explosions and crashes. - Please take a moment to remember how you felt the morning of 9/11: http://www.scubanaked.com/WTC.html and listen to Johnny Cash’s take on that Ragged Old Flag: http://lonestar.50megs.com/vietnamvet/flag.html
  2. Ditto, in keeping with the words of wisdom of Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry, "...feeling lucky, go ahead punk and make my day!" in other words please resist.
  3. - Well, for what it's worth Car & Driver July issue also ran a similar article on the S80 but they even titled it: Playing it safe... perhaps not wanting to perpetuate obsolete stereotypes that alienate half of their audience with politically charged overtones. It contains nothing about the left or right, reps or dems, liberals or conservatives. - Thank you Car & Driver for keeping the dialogue focused on the car's specifications such as its 311 hp V8, 0-60 in 6.5 sec, XC90-like AWD system, and its Mercedes-like interior & stiff suspension.
  4. - Check out this link http://www.memritv.org/ then find 'search' on the left column paste in: Wafa Sultan . Then watch the one or two of the movie clips #1050 and #873 (5 min and 7 min, respectively). - This lady has balls. I wonder if she is still alive. It is a shame more honorable Muslims don't stand up and speak out like she does, condemning barbaric ways that promote suicide bombers on buses, stoning women, etc. All under the misguided guise of religiion.
  5. - We're celebrating how this man is now physically incapable of personally commiting any more beheadings (remember Nicholas Berg and Korean Kim, Sun-il and others?) and he'll make no more improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and vehicle borne explosive devices (VBEDs). He personally killed thousands of people with his own hands and if we didn't kill him he would have continued to do so. What is unfortunate is that off-the-charts extremists with no moral conscience like him must be killed because they are incapable of being reasoned with.
  6. Finally some good news from the front lines of the War on Terror:
  7. I think your description applies to turbobricks.com as well (no offense to those of you who are also members of those sites).
  8. My wife and I teach Korean at the Defense Language Institute (I learned Korean here way back when and my wife is Korean-American). So, we've lived about 8-9 of the past 16 years in Monterey. It is a beautiful place and I'm crazy for all of the car races/shows/auctions/etc but the Central/Northern CA politics are too left for me - Big Sur, Santa Cruz, SF, Berkeley, etc; although I still like visiting all of these places nonetheless - I certainly get a kick out of places like Haight/Ashbury.
  9. - I already sent a letter to the editor telling Motor Trend what I think about Chrysler resurrecting the 'Hemi' moniker on an engine that doesn't have 'hemispherical heads and dual quad design of yesteryear' (although their new engines are hi-perf and efficient) merely to capitalize on the marketability of 'Hemi'. And to my surprise, they actually printed it. - I imagine it would raise a few eyebrows if Volvo owners responded.
  10. - I'm just curious if I really am that much of an anomaly. - Reading through the July 06 Motor Trend, my interest spiked on an article about the all-new Volvo S80 V8. But then I was taken aback by the title of the article "From Left to Right, The Big Swede Leans More to the Middle" and the first paragraph hammered their point defining a Volvo owner by stating the brand is a key icon of the stereotypical liberal-or, as University of California, Berkely linguist Geoffrey Nunberg describes the demographic, the "latte-drinking, sushi-eating, Volvo-driving, New York Time-reading, body-piercing, Hollywood-loving, left-wing freak show." Regarding this Nunberg's stereotype: - Yes, I like espresso (not latte, I actually like Americano without the frothed milk, no caramel, no sugar). - Yes, I eat sushi several times a week (but I also eat red meat). - Yes, I have proudly owned many Volvos dating back to the 80's (200 series, 700 series and S40). As a kid growing up in the 70's/80's, my next door neighbor owned a Volvo dealership and I fell in love with the many models he drove home each day. - No, despise the New York Times (I'm an avid viewer of Fox News). - No, never pierced anything (no tattoos either, no moustache, no beard, no goatee). - Yes, I actually do love Hollywood when I can watch something without far-left politically-charged propaganda shoved down my throat. I can appreciate comedians that are bi-partisan (attack both sides of the aisle) like Jay Leno (unlike SNL's Tina Fey or John Stewart). - No, I'm about the antithesis of left-wing. I was pro-Ronald Reagan back when it was really uncool to be. I think all social welfare programs merely breed perpetual dependence; despite their founders' best intentions. Instead of serving as a temporary springboard to get people back on their feet, we are now on a 5th generation being born into welfare/food stamps/subsidized housing (or is it 6th?). - But I wonder, am I alone or are their other Volvo owners who break the mold? Any other NASCAR fans out there? Any other card-carrying Republicans? Any others who believe welfare does more harm than good? Any others who support the War on Terrorism taking an offensive and fighting them in the Middle East rather than waiting for them to attack us on American soil on their terms? Please respond, I really am intrigued to find out. Despite my passion for Volvos for several decades, I wonder if I oughtta be driving a fire-breathing Mustang GT or 4WD Powerstroke diesel F250 pickup.
  11. Sorry...I've probably had too much coffee this morning. BTW you do have a cool looking wagon and I personally like the R badge.
  12. Awful pompous and condescending for a noob that hasn't even become a 'Supporting Member'. Maybe you've been drinking too much of that high-brow dark, peety, little sweet, scotch-style ale, Fatass Bastard concoction that you brew while thumbing your nose at the Navy (that likely pays you in tips).
  13. *TAKE IT TO THE POLITICAL FORUM* (unless it's Bush-bashing politics, then anything goes). Hypocrisy is so unbecoming, especially a bandwagon of it.
  14. No, it's not okay. BTW he flaunted the pic of his Bush-bashing tailgate and asked for feedback then boasted of being anti-Navy living in Bremerton.
  15. - Glad you're proud of how you show that you support the troops while they're in harm's way fighting a war that 19 suicide hijackers started (not President Bush) and those sailors' hard earned salaries prop up your local Bremerton economy. - I suggest replacing your Bush-bashing decal with one of these: BTW, why don't you also try sporting one of those 'Supporting Member' monikers under your avatar?
