I think there is a fine point that most people here are missing. Whether Bush was President for the past two terms or not, the President would be in a catch-22. There were terrorist attacks on the US during the Clinton years (just not on American soil) and he did nothing. But he got rave reviews because of the Economy which was a fluke due to the tech/internet boom. So then there was 9-11. If Bush or any other President sat back and did nothing - he would be criticized. If he went to war, initially he would be supported, but eventually criticized. The difference in my mind is... if that President is a Republican he catches crap... if it was a democrat the action would be justified. There seems to be a hyprocrocy in that. Also - boys and girls, keep this in mind the following; Remember 52 Americans were held hostage for 444 days by radical Iranians? Remember prior to the 1st Gulf War, US warships had to patrol and escort the Straits of Hormuz to escort international oil tankers (under American flag) through the straits of Hormuz into international waters? Why? Because the Iranians were hitting these tankers with Surface to Surface missiles. If you want more education - I was there in the middle of it. Remember Iraq invaded neighboring Kuwait - which at that time was a ally of the US? Oh - wait... Iran was once an Ally too. Remember the restraint that Colin Powell used in stopping at the Kuwait/Iraq border when Schwartzkoff wanted to continue pushing right on into Iraq? Remember Hussein threw Weapons inspectors out of Iraq after they found evidence of chemical and biological weapons development? Remember we said there would be concequences if the team of international weapons inspectors were not allowed back in? Remember Hussein used chemical weapons on the Kurds to the North and Darn near killed everyone of them? I've not gone on to mention the bombing of a US embassy, a marine barracks and a US destroyer to name a few other events. Remember 9-11 came along and we were tired of doing nothing? The problem I see with Democracy is that it is so great that most people have short-term memory loss when it comes to bad things. As long as they have their white picket fences and their Starbucks - life is rosey. The majority of Americans have become a bunch of sheep unaware of what is going on in the world. Oh - and another part about Democracy is you can actually say something about it and not have your family killed and tortured over it. I forgot that part. Remember - war it inevitable. It takes Statesmen to avoid war. A utopian global society is an impossible dream - it defies human nature. If you have utopia, there is always someone that will want it all for themselves, thus you have conflict. It takes Statesmen to prevent war, but war is always inevitable. Has been for thousands of years and will be for a thousand more. My final words are... do I think Bush is the sharpest knife in the drawer? No way. But in a country as great as the US, look at the limited choices we have during Presidential Campaigns!!! It sux!!! So - we have Bush and he is in a catch-22. They next President will probably get us out of Iraq. Then what. We leave a vacuum and the same Iraqis that are busy killing their own people right now will take over or Iran will invade. Then what, another terrorist state or two? So, we're in a catch-22 and the hypocracy from the liberal dems is expected but all out UN-AMERICAN and their actions eat away at the heart of what a democracy should be. Don't even get me on the topic of Communism. Has never worked, and never will. Peace out! Scott C. EDIT - DavidClanton (above) had faster fingers than mine! Good on ya David - BZ. I'm buying first round!
